Optus Branded but Unlocked Phone Not Working with Kogan / Vodafone Sim

Hey o!!!

Bought 12month Kogan prepaid last year, lost my phone, have gotten old android from drawer. Ordered two new kogan simcards, put one in and the Android carrier says KOGAN, called a random number and it connected me through to the Kogan call centre, spoke to chap who ported my number to new simcard and said reboot your phone and should work straight away. When I've rebooted my phone ever since, it says No Service / Emergency Calls Only.

If I try to make a call, it says Not Registered on network. That was about 7pm so i thought to wait till this morning but it's still not working.

IF I put the other Kogan (unactivated) sim card in, it works fine again (in that I can call Kogan).

So I called them again and they ported it to the second sim card and now that one not working at all either.

So, do you think this phone could be locked to Optus?

Thanks!

*UPDATE: Just spoke to optus chat, say the phone is not locked…

  • if you put a non-Optus SIM in, it would prompt you for an unlock code, so it is unlikely locked.
"straight away" is a big call.

  • "straight away" is a big call.

Well, to be fair, the sim card stopped working straight away so mayhaps if all had gone well…

    • I was referring to activation/porting being 'straight away'

  • I'd say the port hasn't gone through. Which telco were you with? Kogan? In that case it's a SIM replacement.

    • Kogan to Kogan, using same phone number

      • Then you have to ask Kogan why the SIM replacement didn't work. Did you tell them why you used a new SIM? It's not a port. Port is between different carriers.

        • yeah, i had to give them my kogan password and stuff
