Title says it all really. I've been looking for one for a little while, checked Amazon this morning to see their price (nothing special) and came across this.

What's the advantage of this over say a $400 bluetooth speaker? What do people use these for that warrants the price?
You can network Sonos speakers together and play the same thing over the house/area, or different things to each speaker, or group them together into smaller zones. I haven't got any (yet) and am trying to work out if there are Bluetooth speakers that I could plug Chromecast audios into and achieve the same result.
Yeah I was thinking chromecast audios do that for a lot less
They certainly can, but finding the right speaker is the trick. The Play:5 sounds fantastic, and the cheaper Sonos stuff sounds good as well. There is a Sony speaker for about $200 that has Chromecast and Google home built in, and I wonder how that compares to the Play:1
@ebosh: Surely the high price of these Sonos speakers is 50% brand though, rather than just being 2x better sound quality. I'm sure they sound good, but a $300 other speaker surely could sound similar. And if you can get one with Chromecast inbuilt for $200, there surely must be better options for value.
Just as a note, recently got the Sonos subwoofer.
Price matched the addictedtoaudio price ($850) with Harvey Norman using their online chat bot (live rural WA - Harvey Norman local store). Then using the $400 get $100 back AMex Deal for Harvey Norman - got another 100 off.
Worth trying if you have the Harvey Norman deal saved on your AMex card.
I really want one .. But i'll wait for a better deal
