I'm going to Cairns late April next year. When I book accommodation, I notice that on several booking websites, price at the moment is cheaper compared to next April.
Then, google also pointed that around AUG to DEC is the peak season for diver in Cairns, and seem like April is not a best time in Cairns.
Why does the accommodation in April is more expensive?
Primary reason why it's expensive in April is Queensland School holidays run from 29 March to 16 April, and probably NSW and VIC are very similar as it always falls over Easter. Right now school is still in term hence it's cheaper. April also has ANZAC day holiday. Rainy season would also have something to do with it. Rainy AND cyclone season.
I went around that time a few years ago and got hit by a cyclone. Didn't make landfall but there was lots of rain.
Also there's jellyfish so you need to wear a stinger suit.
April should be cheaper as is it still stinger season, it is also cyclone season (albeit the end)
Should I wait near the holiday to book accommodation. is that because I book too early?
We went in Feb. Hot & Humid but cheap accommodation.

The dry season starts in April. Apr to Dec is the tourist season. Outside of that it gets hot and humid or even rainy.
