What's a vornado? Post said that title would explain all, it lies! :P

    • +5

      It's a 660.

      • +2

Outperforms the 650 in 9 out of 10 lab tests

    • +1

It's a whole room air circulator.

      • Moves Air up to 30.5 meters
      • 4 speed setting
      • Quiet operation
      • Quiet operation

I have one of these. The words 'quiet operation' can only be used if it's turned off. It's awesome at circulating air but it's by no means quiet.

        • Costco has a "lifetime satisfaction warranty", and if it is not quiet enough, just take it back and get a full refund

    • It's not that complicated Jeff. They took the word 'tornado' and replaced the 't' with a 'v'

  • Yep, tons left in Casula store in NSW as well. Picked mine up on Saturday. Available in black and white.

  • Its a shame they dont have the DC Vornados in Australia yet

    • is DC the newer models?

      • +1

My DC pedestal fan uses between 2-26 watts(1-26 speed) of power. My 2 yr old AC pedestal fan uses 75/75/85 watts(Low/med/hi) of power. Same amount of breeze although i have no way of measuring it. Also a tad bit quieter but none of this half the noise of AC fans as they claim simply because the majority of noise is from the fan blades cutting through the air.

    • Are they much better?

    • I've heard about DC pedestal fans and how they're supposedly better. How does DC improve things though?

  • I bought one and returned it, was a pain to find the right spot to focus on the ceiling and it doesn't cover the whole room anyway, good that costco has a good returns policy

    • You're doing it wrong.

    • Not as good anymore. Check the new terms and conditions.

      • I remember they changed the electronics returns to 30 days or something to that effect, is it worse than that

    • I use a focussed beam torch ;)

Not quiet but if you need bulk air moved, it's a highly reviewed fan.

but if you need bulk air moved

Open a window or a door for a few minutes…

    • +1

You mustn't have experienced a Sydney summer. Hot still air won't go anywhere no matter how many windows you open

      • -3

Where will it go with this fan?

        • +2

The opened window or a door you opened a few minutes ago

          @ciab:
But you said, "Hot still air won't go anywhere no matter how many windows you open"…

          You are confusing me.

  • the title of this post brought back images of sharknado… goosebumps

  • +1

Excellent fan. I have the older model and it's been working great for 5+ years

its not quiet but is perfect as white noise when sleeping

  • +1

Where can I get that old man's sweater? From Costco too?

  • Ok serious question though, I'm thinking of getting this in place of a ceiling fan. Is my understanding correct in that you aim this thing at say one corner of the room and the movement of air can be felt all over, similar to have a large ceiling fan?

    • The theory is that by placing it on the floor and aiming at ceiling on opposite side of the room that it pushes the colder air up bringing the average temperature in the room down.

This is how the Fan circulate the Air in room
So it seems its better to be placed at the corner, or near the wall
and blow the air towards the other end / ceiling which bounce the air around the room

(I don't have this fan so I cant comment on performance)

    • +1

Have not used my ceiling fan ever since I got a vornado, and now I have 2 of them and they work swell. Definitely loves the air around

      • +1

Thanks for your comment! I guess it's 'cheap' enough to get it before I both installing a ceiling fan which would be much more after getting the electrician in…

        • Also, you can always move the fan around or point it toward you if you want to. It is pretty noisy too but not as loud as the set of voll speakers I got. Definitely prefer this to ceiling fans though.

    • Well it won't feel near as breezy as it would if blown straight into you.

I use this fan blown straight at me during the day and it feels cool. During the night while I sleep I have it pointing almost vertically up. This is because my bed is high and is close to the wall where the power outlet is, and if I don't point it that high it will blow straight into my bed. I won't feel the breeze but the room is still cooler and easier to sleep in.

It's not quiet, but it's quiet for the amount of air being pushed.

  • I have one of these. They're not as "whisper quiet" as reviews had me believe, but I can sleep with it on lowest setting. It doesn't automatically rotate, and is designed to be pointed up at the corner of the room, which then "splits" the stream of air out in multiple directions. It is quite powerful, and hasn't skipped a beat in the 4 years I've had it.

    • How are they compared to say a regular pedestal fan? (noise)

      • Noise is comparable or a bit louder, but the amount of air being pushed is a lot more than the pedestal fan.

  • Does anybody know if these are also available at the Costco Auburn store?

    • +1

Yes they are. Called their office and confirmed 30+ units available

  • fantastic fans. wouldn't go to another brand after getting one of these.

  • +1

Fan tip: If there is cooler air outside your house and no breeze, open at least 2 windows in your house and face the fan out of the window in your room. You will blow hot air out of your room and pull in cool air from the other side. More.

  • Damn, that is a great price. No Costcos in Perth :(

    • It is a great price. You can try heading to your local Harvey Norman and ask them for a discount or their best price. Depending on the sales person, I got 1 for $199 once..

      • on ebay for $199 delivered

        • Yeah that’s why I asked the Harvey sales guy what is the best he can do. Was happy to pick it up for $199 from Harvey just cause Harvey is 5 minutes away and that worked out well for me just because the first vornado I got was faulty. It died after a week. Got it replaced easily with Harvey and Haven’t had a problem with them fans since

      • +1

Yup, I got one a few weeks ago for $200 😀, but for $150 would get another!

  • +1

    How does this compare to?

Seville Classics Ultra Slimline fan combo 99cm and 43cm

Costco is selling this for $99.99

    • +1

They serve different functions in reality. If you want air movement (possibly from outside or to push cold air from a room with AC into one that doesn't) go the Vornado.

If you want direct air to blow at people in a hot room to provide some relief, go the Seville.

  • I found it for 155 delivered from these guys, but have no idea what they are like to purchase from : http://www.ibuys.com.au/vornado-circulator-black-71633-p-240…

    • +2

      That's the 633 model.

      • Oops my bad. Model number dislexia

  • I have the smaller one of these (the 533 model) and it provided good cooling last summer when our air con broke down in Melb.

  • Is it worth buying Vornado 660 for $150
or Vornado 630 for $139? (After David Jones AMEX $30 cashback)

  • This vs CAT air circulator? About the same price at Costco from memory.

    • How big is the cat? Vornado only has 584 cfm. Any industrial high velocity fan will blow that away

    • personally I would not keep a CAT one in the living room, it looks more like work site thing. Vornado does not look that bad.

    Can be had for $169

These things are brilliant. I've bought one for each room in my house.

  • Same price at Costco Mitcham Victoria.
