Buying new bikes - cheapest place ?

Hi All
i went to Lawrencia cycles in Hawthorn, Vic and looked at some bikes for my kids.

Here is one of the bikes I was looking at:
https://www.bicyclesuperstore.com.au/liv-alight-24-2018.html

The price at Lawrencia was $379. The price at all the places i can find is also $379.

I also need to get a 2nd bike for my oldest (price $479).

Anyone got any tips to get it cheaper ? Can you bargain down the price at these places…seems like they all have the same prices.
Thanks

  • Probably not much bargaining on a bike at that price range. But when you get into the $1000 mark they all usually drop 10% at the drop of a hat. Alternativley leading into july, all the bike manufacturers start clearing they're current stock to make way for the new year models. How much do you want to pay? have you considered just getting a cheaper model bike?

    Is secondhand an option?

You should look for left-handed bicycles.

  • There are end of season sales coming up and 2016 models should be discounted heavily. Regarding haggling, I think you should take cash if you want a discount.

    • The bike world changes model year sometime September or October. So 2017 models are in runout now and have been for a couple of months.

  • I got one of these for my kid https://www.reidcycles.com.au/reid-scout-24-girls-bike.html

Alloy frame, well made and does the job. $299.

Ended up buying a hybrid for myself as well. No complaints at all for the price.

  • Chainreaction

The bikes are generally cheaper and they belong to wiggle so it could be a smidge cheaper on wiggle but then they hit you with delivery.

They "haven't charged me for delivery" so if you know what you want already that helps (delivery took 8 days for a kids bike to arrive) it was better than anything i could by here and was half the price

Also the best place to pick up kids bikes is through Europe no back pedal brake on anything.

We followed the U.S. and decided to take on the Rule anything under 16" wheel requires a back pedal brake.

There is a huge market in Canada for free wheeling conversion kits because they got lumbered with the same thing.

They have this one for $241 once you take the discount of for being 2017 model and free delivery.
