Bagless Vacuum Fidgety to Empty/Clean

Hi guys,

im wondering if other ozbagainers find emptying bagless vacs an issue. So i got the usual V6 Dyson stick vac which we all pretty much have I'm sure, and we have carpet and have a short vac it always fills with dust, usually stuck on to the filter part.

I used to be fine emptying it out when im outside, so the dust stays outside the home, but since moving into a apartment, i've not been able to stop it all from spilling. The initial release of the bottom of the cannister usually doesn't let much of the dust fall out, its usually groupped up and stuck. So i'd need to release the whole cannister, but its so messy and dust usually spills everywhere. I have a bad underneath, but i'm wondering if anyone else finds these stick vacs a bit of a pain to empty. Also, after empting it, there is usually tonnes of carpet dust stuck on to the filter, and inside as well.

I'm starting to wonder why stick vacs are so popular now days.

  • we've two dyson cyclones and empty them directly into the red bins. easy as.

  • Go the v8 model, they changed it.
Admittedly I have a v6 that I empty straight into the bin and I don't mind.

    • Do you vacuum carpet, does the dust just wrap around the filter and not fall down? Requiring fingers stuck in and draging it and hence dust falling everywhere? I feel like im doing it wrong

      • the cyclone is designed to cluster the dust. why are you using your fingers? use an old toothbrush, a small duster or anything with a brush.

        • Because if i toothbrush the dust in my apartment it flies everywhere. Hence why i have my hand in the bag and the stick vac and try to do it all in the bag and not let it fly everywhere.

I see. We empty our canisters directly into the red bins. Quick and easy.

as in, the main garbage bin? the ones the council takes?

          Wheelie bin.

      • I vacuum rugs full of cat hair, I use my fingers, I don't care, I wash my hands :)

  • I hate emptying baseless vacuums too.. I use a plastic fork to gently pull out the dust clump.

    • I use a yogurt land spoon for ours. Saves pulling off the barrel every time. The spoon handle is fall and has a lip it on the end that grabs the dust clumps nicely.

  • I had the same problem.

To fix I purchased another V6 to vacuum out the collection cannister of the first one.

    • I just purchase a new one and throw out the full one.

      • I just buy a new apartment.

    • Dyson inception

  • We have had a few bagless vacs and overall found them to be annoying to clean and empty.
A few years ago we got a Miele bagged vac and it is far better. The bags do hold more than you think and it is very easy to empty and clean. You can get genuine bags at discounted prices if you look around (ebay used to have them) and for the few $ a year it is well worth it.

its good to hear im not the only one.
