Mimosa Timber Outdoor Storage Box $108 (Was $219) at Bunnings

730

Saw this on Price Hipster and had been looking for a better storage box for bats and balls and pool stuff in the barbie area - and something that looked better than the black plastic storage container.

This also provides seating for three not too large people. (Total 200kg) It is a solid sucker so you might need help lifting it. Also watch the lid falling on kids' fingers. (I am getting a gas strut)
Edit: Just noticed the pic shows a timber strut to hold it open - that is not accurate. It has two webbing straps - no strut.

Bunnings blurb:
The Mimosa timber storage box is the perfect addition to any outdoor entertaining space. Built with durability for both ultimate functionality and style, this storage box is ideal for storing all sorts of items around the yard.

I grabbed one at Bunnings Burleigh in QLD yesterday when there were 9 in stock. Went back for another today and when I left there were three left, so check stock. I think it is only at the larger stores.

Thanks @dosada:

Also makes a great coffin for those on a tight budget.

My mum will be dying in a few days sadly but this one still made me laugh. She always was one to keep a tight purse.

Sorry to hear ☹ my condolences to you. Wishing you, your family and her friends peace and comfort during this difficult time. May your mother also have peace & comfort & no pain! I can only imagine how difficult something like that would be! Take Care & God Bless.

Thanks for the late reply, she checked out yesterday at 5:10am. Glad I was there though :/

Aldi has it this weekend - so suppose the price drop at bunnings !

  • +1

Looks to be to match Aldi. We have the Aldi version and the quality isn’t too flash.

    • +1

From the Aldi pic they look very similar down to the fake "tar" between the slats on top - except the Aldi one has wheels.

      • We saw the Aldi one just on a casual browse through and it looked pretty tacky (imo) cos of that "tar" top filling.

    • aldi has wheels
      more easier to move

      • I wouldn't recommend moving it if it's full of stuff and on a deck you don't want to get destroyed

        • But what if you do want it destroyed?

        • @Munki: There are more exciting ways to destroy your deck

@Putnum: I read that with a kiwi accent and felt a squirming twitch in my pants.

This will hold all my shotgun cartridges #notjoking

      • Are you bulking up for world war 3?
I am happy with its size if it holds a pistol, a rifle and a few cartridges! #letstrigger

      • Wow. You must have a huge gun safe for this to fit in it!!!

        • Isn’t the gun safe required by law to be fixed to the ground? In my state anyway…

        • [@txchou](/comment/5.30am 422/redir):

          Not if over 150kg

        • +2

I don't even have a gun, let alone many guns to need a gun safe.

        • @tomsco:

          Every gun needs a safe!

It's a sad day for society when Wayne's World references are no longer recognised

    • This wouldn't meet the legal storage requirements for firearms in Australia.

bought one of these for my brother a couple years back and they are smaller than pictured.
But a great storage box nonetheless!
his has been out in SE-QLD weather all this time and still looks new with the wood with no imperfections such a bowing or splintering.
At this price I'm going to buy one for myself.

    • Is it flat packed and you assemble yourself?

      • yes flat packed

This also provides seating for three not too large people. (Total 200kg)

So it's not suitable for Ozbargainers then?

    • Depends how many McDonald's deals you buy.

      • +3

Mcdonalds? The ozb obesity is all from the hungry jacks. You know what they say. The lifestyle disease is better at hungry jacks.

        • +2

The people are fatter at Hungry Jack's.

        • +3

I think you will find the no. 1 contributor to obesity on OB is Dominos

@Jackson: …conoisseur ice creams do the job nicely too ;)

        • @Scab: I got it ;)

  • Probably because of the $109 aldi version

    • i remember the last time Aldi had a fire extinguisher, Bunnings almost immediately slashed their prices for their extinguisher too.

Vents perfect for spiders to get in and out? Also will timber attract termites?

    • Only attracts termites if you already have termites where you place it. Tho this is made from FSC® Certified Eucalyptus Hardwood so would like to see termites go for that

      • Termites go for everything including concrete that's what I heard. But it's favourite is of course timber.

        • So you have concrete and hardwood eating termites at your place?

        • +1

          @asa79:

          Termites love hardwood.

And a lot of Australian native trees which they like are hardwood.

It's a myth they won't eat or attract them.

    • Exactly what I was as thinking! Perfect location for funnel webs and red backs, eeewwww!!

      • We got given to basic outdoor chairs; not too long later yep redback or two found in the gap where the woven seat and seatback are secured. I've never intended to sit on it and that just validated it for me.

        • I have a redback pet. They are pretty harmless.

KMart has a slightly smaller wooden box for $45… (44 x 77 x 38 cm), this doesn't have a lid but may serve the same purpose if u r handy with tools…
    Link here

    • +2

I thought you were going to link this one as it has the lid. I use one for shoe storage.

    • +1

      That's a planter box lol

      • …its for 'plant storage'….duh! :P

  • I wonder what the cost of materials are?

    • Maybe a visit to Spotlight or Lincraft might be in order then?

  • +1

If the crushing of kids fingers was a concern you could probably stick a piece of foam or two on it to stop the lid closing the last 10mm.

    • +1

Or you could just chop the kids fingers off.

      • +4

        That'll learn em

  • +1

    Dupe comment sorry

This is disappearing fast from Bunnings stores. All around me in northern suburbs of Melb they are down to one or three per store, which means sorry, none left by the time you get to the store to pick one up :(

And kudos to the ozbargainer who just rang Thomastown Bunnings just before me this morning everything about the same product!

  • +6

This will be a breeding ground for lizards, spiders and cockroaches if put outside due to the open slat design. I would advise to pickup a Cyclone Insect screen at the same time and glue/tack it inside. https://www.bunnings.com.au/cyclone-1220mm-x-2-05m-fibreglas…

Bunnings: ripping us off with >100% mark ups every other day if the year that Aldi doesn't have a special

    • +3

Lower prices are just the beginning.

      • +1

And they go up from there!

  • +1

From the thumbnail… I thought it was a casket. =/

  • Thanks OP. One left at Tuggeranong ACT store after I grabbed one.

  • None left in Coburg.

  • Only 1 left at Bunnings Northlakes.

  • "@asa79:Termites love hardwood. And a lot of Australian native trees which they like are hardwood. It's a myth they won't eat or attract them."
Sort of..they prefer the lovely soft plantation Pine that so many house frames were/are made of,and they're not as attracted to Australian hardwood and (for example)actually don't like Australian Cyprus.

    • There's actually a species that only eats hardwood: https://goo.gl/vtnEKk

And hardwood usually becomes termite resistant with age, the ones used for building aren't as old as natural growth.

  • There was one in Port Melbourne at 11am on Sunday.

I picked up 3 from Gungahlin just before lunch, was still 2 left. I put them together this arvo. Will also make for great outside seating this Xmas. Thanks!

When I rang up to check stock they also told me Belco had some.

  • +2

I'll wait for when this one goes on special https://www.bunnings.com.au/mimosa-127-x-60-x-89cm-timber-st…

  • Got 2 from Bunnings in Burleigh this afternoon. Still 8 left.

  • Not sure if it was a super bargain, but I was in the market for one so was happy to grab one from Morley (WA), they had a couple left.

Malaga apparently had a few also. None at Belmont.

  • On the Aldi version I had a look while I was there yesterday. I think it might be a lot lighter version.

While they look similar, the pic on the Aldi carton shows the fixings on the front while the Bunnings version is on the ends. The timber in the Bunnings version looks thicker, just going on the pics on the Aldi version.

  • Looks like it has gone back to full price. Has anyone got a screenshot of the unit priced at $108?

    • …bunnings sale prices fluctuate regularly and they wont honour a prior sale price point retrospectively. ive asked staff before and they cant do a thing if its listed at a higher price on the shelf

      • +1

        ok thanks.

      • +1

They just told me they will honor the original price with a screenshot (my brother works there). Anyone got one?

        • good work…they basically told me no way they could do it….even offered to show the items price history in pricehipster
now you just have to find a screenshot :P
