Are There Any "Smart Home" Videos You Would Like to See? (Arduino Hobbyist)

Hi all,

I'm a bit of a hobbyist with Arduino and have a working knowledge of how to wire up a some home automation stuff.

I was going to create some videos and put them of youtube for how to automate certain things and control them from your phone from scratch (like a smart light bulb, for a starter project, for instance) but I thought I'd put it out there. Are there any things in particular that you would like to learn about how to do?

Videos would entail:

• Where to get your stuff from
• How to write an API in ASP.NET (this would be the thing that the chipset talks to)
• How to get your Arduino compatible board to talk to the API (ESP8266 in this case)
• How to then configure your arduino to check the API, and also, how to get it to "listen" for certain events etc (so, dim the lightbulb, make it brighter, etc).

If you have ever wondered how to create your home automation thing from scratch, this might be your chance. I'm not a guru by any means, I can't automate everything ever. But I can do some things and I think I have enough knowledge to share :D

  Interested sure but want to see what I can do before I can comment.

  Suggest adding "Arduino" into title, actually came here with Xiaomi in mind.

    Cool. I might start with the light video and take it from there.

    Probably start with making it controllable from a web page for instance, and then bring in phone integration or something.

    Are you a developer? If so, what languages do you know?

      In answer to your question…no knowledge of the subject of home automation at all nor of any programming languages.

  Awesome, I was looking to do something with my Arduino over the Christmas break.
  The smart light bulb sounds like a really good starter project.
  I only know very little, basic coding, took a short online course which was in java script. Also did some work with Matlab.
  I am interested if you would post any videos.

  Yes! A post to start from the absolute beginning would be wonderful. I keep seeing all these deals for Xiaomi Gateway etc and have no idea if thats just a part of what I need.

  I have some Yeelights, a smart TV. Watched a video on the Xiaomi Mi Universal IR Remote and was wondering if that could connect to my oldish standard aircon, so I can finally set a timer for Summer nights!
