The most compact writing pen I have come across thus far is the one that comes with certain Victorinox Swiss Army Knife products. Try doing a google search for "victorinox replacement ballpoint pen" - it is quite cheap and extremely tiny, enough that you can simply wrap it in paper, slip it into your wallet/purse and forget that it ever existed.
Be warned - Writing with it is a major PITA if you have large hands.

I've been looking for mini pens. Good for writing the code for KFC feedback receipts on the go. These have a cheap plastic look to them. Other than the lipstick styles, are there any other mini writing pens our there.
