Exchange rate help

Im a bit confused imported stuff from uk and believe its charged if any gst on value of over $1000 and goes by what exchange rate was when it left uk on that day.
I found a page where it said from customs what it was that day.
How do i work out what the uk to au was on that day.
On au customs site it said 0.5708 gbp to $1 aud.
How do i work this out lol.

Price of the goods in gbp / 0.5708 gbp = aud equivalent.

    e.g 500 gbp (whatever you bought) / 0.5708 = $875.96 aud

Sorry still confused this is what it states on the site so im trying to figure out if my purchase in gbp would work out in aud and if it takes me over the $1000 allowed before gst etc.
How do i work this out probably a simple answer i just cant see it. Lol

      • The converse calculation is AUD1,000 x 0.5708 = GBP570.80

      • if you are after $1,000 aud limit equivalent to gbp.

        It's $1,000 x 0.5708 = £570.80

Therefore, anything less than £570.80 is less than $1,000 aud.

        • Ok thanks so if customs link a exchabge rate on date and country of that day this is what they work on. As by sounds of it im like £6 under.
Just curious as exchange rate has risen sharply since it sent.

        • @bwatt72:

          That is correct.

Basically to keep it under AU$1,000 for your purchase of £565, you would want the exchange rate to be 0.5650 gbp (or higher) = 1 aud.

          hope this helps.

    • Its about 565 gbp for future reference how did you work it out as i just cant get my head around it.

  • Thanks hopefully im all clear then thanks for your help.

  • I think the $1000 AUD limit is inclusive of shipping so if your item is 565 pounds + 50 in shipping, this will take it over.

    • Shipping only comes into it if items are over $1000 then you ate charged gst on goods shipping and whatever else they decide to charge you for.
