Wait for a good deal on the HD. Much better device.

  • Where does it state "savings of $90"?

  • initially RRP is $279.00

    • Looks like this might be the new RRP to differentiate itself from Video Doorbell 2 from a price point perspective.

I would not be surprised if other retailers dropping their price soon.

  • This would be a great idea for those people living in a mansion behind their double bolted gates.
Can't see the majority of Ozbargainers fitting into this category though..

    • Wifi might not reach that far

      • This isn't exactly the door bell you put on your first home out the back of nowhere, so if wifi doesn't reach that far, it's kind of a pointless expensive gimmick.

  • Can someone confirm of you need to buy the Ring Video Recording Plan to see the video?

    Ring Video Recording Plans

For only A$4 AUD per month, you can:
    •Access your videos anytime, anywhere
•Save all your videos for up to 60 days
•Share videos with friends, family and neighbors

    FAQ states

If I don't sign up for a Ring Video Recording Plan, will I still get alerts?

Yes. You'll still get alerts when visitors press your Doorbell or trigger the motion sensors.

    • You need a plan to see past videos. Everything else is the same. You get a free 30 day trial so you can see if it's really worth that much to you.

      • But if I don't get the plan can I still see live feed when someone rings?

Yes definitely get live feed without plan.

        • @leTintin: Thanks!

If you can afford a $190 door bell, quite sure you can afford $4 per month anyhow. $4 a month seem like a lot? Get a $19 doorbell instead or just go cold turkey and make people knock.

  • Also note there is a yearly $40 minimum subscription fee in order save videos to the cloud for later viewing

I've had this and do not recommend this version… Customer service completely useless too (dealt with 10x people asking same questions and not getting anywhere).

If you do decide to buy it make sure you get it from JB Hifi or a major so you can easily return it (like I did). I now have the Ring 2 and it's got a removable battery and much better - I've got 2 months out of it..

    • battery crap - if you don't have a wire to plug into then you'll be charging the battery every 2-4 weeks
    • you NEED fast uploads (4Mbps+) (keep in mind this is UPLOADS not downloads)
    • you really do need a plan as unless your internet is ridiculously good at home AND where you are you won't see anything

It's a great concept and handy, just badly made sadly
