  • Your definition of cheap?

  • Try the Telstra T-Touch selling for $299: http://www.telstra.com.au/bigpond-internet/mobile-broadband/…. Not exactly an iPad but has comparable features at half the price.

    • LOL just like the definition of cheap, we all have different definitions of comparable features

In my book they are not comparable…..

      • ditto… Resistive vs capacitive touch being the first of many non-comparable features!

There is an Archos unit that gets talked about a lot on Whirlpool. You have to import from Europe though. And they're having supply issues. It's around $250 + shipping.
There's another unit talked about on Whirlpool, but it's Vapour-ware at the moment (doesn't actually exist for sale yet). Apart from that, the only "recommended" units are the iPad or at a cinch, the Samsung Galaxy Tab. But unless you buy on a plan, the Galaxy Tab is seriously not "cheap".

Read some reviews of the Galaxy Tab though… they're not exactly glowing and that's for a $1000 piece of kit!
Going by that, the iPad is a steal! It's cheaper, bigger and actually does "useful" things!
(in a world where the definition of "useful" is different to mine)

Also be aware that the 3G feature seems to be a bit of a dud in the opinion of most iPad users. wiFi is preferred cause it's faster and common enough to not really need 3G.

    • the 3G adds GPS which is often overlooked when people review the differences.

  • Archos have released a number of tablets (saw it on twit)

    10", 7", 3.5" screens. I think the 3.5 is resistive touch though

    • oops, i dont know if they're 3g, i think they might be wifi

  • How cheap? And what is a tablet?
You can order the Kindle from Amazon-US for a bit over $200.

    • kindle is an ebook reader dude

No kidding. So is the iPad. Both are tablets, as is a 12" laptop with rotating screen, as is a 3.5" Nokia tablet
"dude". The OP needs to be a little more specific.

no, calling the ipad an ebook reader is a bit silly don't you think dood? that's like calling a car a skateboard, the ipad is so much more than an ebook reader, as is any tablet, we're all well aware that the OP needs to specify more dewd

  • According to our records, op still hasn't logged on since posting the deal. When op decides to log back on, use the report function and we can unlock the thread. Otherwise we all seem to be arguing about definitions of "cheap" and what he needs it for.

    Peace.
