    At true ozbargainer would

1- buy today from TGGs for $317

    2- Claim 120% of the difference tomorrow (317 - 189 = 128 X 1.2 = $153.60 refund)

    Total cost = 317 - 153.60 = $163.40

    Enjoy

What is the difference between this and black one on officeworks website

  • +13

Fitbit = rubbish. Will never buy another of their products. Fall apart after 6 months and incredibly hard to keep sync with mobile devices. YMMV.

    • +2

I used to own a Fitbit Charge HR and it fell apart after about 6 months as well. Air bubbles started forming inside the band and although Fitbit probably would have replaced it, I was just annoyed at that point and didn't push further. I've since bought a Fitbit Blaze and this thing is amazing. I've had it for nearly over 1.5 years and there's no issue at all. If you're looking at getting a Fitbit, get the Blaze.

      • +3

You should definitely have asked for a replacement and sold it on Gumtree. It's just an email with a picture and proof of purchase.

        • Yup I had a fitbit charge and it kept coming off during running. Eventually the plastic material came off and then the whole thing fell apart in 3 months!
Emailed with photo and proof of purchase to get a new one. End up giving it to my dad.

    • Which version you had? I had my surgery for over 2 years, never had an issue except the band was worn out which I was able to replace by buying a replacement and replacing it myself

Imo id get the ionic, it's got gps - this one doesn't

    • +4

Fitbit are terrible quality. I've owned several generations of the wrist tracker and had to get them replaced at least 5 times in 3 years due to band issues or electronic failure. Also had regular issues with bluetooth sync not working. My lastest issue is a lockup during a firmware upgrade which can't be reset and has happened just outside my 12 month warranty.

There's plenty of more reliable options out there, starting with the insanely cheap Xiaomi Mi Band 2, which I've been happily using for the past few months, and has no issues syncing at all.

  • +1

Agree. This is my 4th Charge HR and the air bubbles started. Each one failed around 6 month mark and to their credit each time FitBit replaces it with a new one. Though this last one they said that they do on an exception basis since the first one was bought by me more than 1 year back. Will possibly get this one..

    • Did you have to send it back

      • Nope, only the photo of the damaged tracker..

  • My wife wants a fitbit or similar device. Any recommendations? (We know nothing about them, and only stipulation is it must be good and relatively cheap)

    • +2

Had a blaze for nearly a year. Great device, works well apart from my arm now having a MASSIVE tanline. Very happy owner.

      • There are so many different models of fitbits. What is the difference?

        • +2

Size and features. I use mine for heart rate mostly, and also (somewhat surprisingly) to tell the time.

I started with the Xiaomi miband 2 so I could track heart rate on strava whilst on my bike. I have since given that to my wife, and there are glaring differences in accuracy of the pedometer and the heart rate. The blaze is far and away more accurate and just plain better, which is the difference between a $20 tracker and a $200 tracker. I found fitbit to be superior in most every way.

You need to make a call on what you're comfortable spending, and what you'll use it for. The blaze is large on the wrist, perhaps the alta HR is better, but I do see many ladies with the blaze at the same time.

        • @davowade: thanks for the great advice

        • @tassieeagle: No worries at all, happy shopping.

      • second this. Excellent device. Another happy owner.

    • New Xiaomi band or watch could be an option. Price is certainly a lot cheaper than Fitbit and more accurate according to the reviews.

I got a Fitbit after my wife got one. It has kept us competitively active trying to hit step goals and also heart rate goals.
It has improved our sluggish lifestyle honestly and provided our friends and incentive to join in on park runs and such.
We started with the Charge HR but I agree with the people above, the bands on the Charge HR are susceptible failure.
The Blaze is an excellent device for the price and being $189 at Big W & Officeworks is a huge draw card.
if you want proper water resistance, get the Ionic. However I would only spend what you can afford. Have fun! :)

  • Also the Charge HR 2 does not suffer from the air bubbles. But I prefer the pricing and colour screen of the Blaze.

    • +2

Yes it does, I'm now on my 4th set of bands. I had 3 failed bands on my Fitbit Charge HR 1. Their quality is terrible.

      • My apologies for having a difference experience from yours, I've only had failures with 2 x Charge HR 1.
So far my experience 1 x Charge HR 2 has been great. I can see how the plastic clip holding the bands to the body unit could perish though.
Fitbit should have made it metal for any clasps.
Sucks that your run has been poor. The Charge HR 1 is quite a disaster in design.

        • I agree. I was very annoyed with so many failures on the Fitbit 1 so when I purchased the Fitbit 2 I would have thought they would have ironed out the problems, but obviously not unfortunately.

  • I'm still using the same Fitbit "one" after 4 or so years. It's wonderful, and no annoying band to worry about.

  • Is the smart alarm on this any good?

    • it's noticeable. The buzzer is… mediocre at best, but it can distract you, which is the point of it.

The buzzer is okay. I have one set for 4pm/6pm, as well as 8am/1pm to just tick over and let me know the time. i just tap the right side button or let it go, depending on how busy I am at the time. it can repeat a missed alarm, but it isn't awesomely reliable.

If you want a wakeup alarm, it's woeful. It won't wake you up from a deep sleep. It won't wake you up if you're drowsy or too distracted, i.e. driving or jogging. If you want the notification, keep the band close to the wrist bone or adjust the position so the HR sensor is covered and you don't see the green laser emitting. early on, the band can slide around until the rubber stretches and conforms, or causes some irritation and chafing. after a month or 2, no issues. plus, you're undoing the band every 3-5 days to top up or recharge while sitting down, or in the bathroom, etc.

If you're in a shopping center or listening to music, etc. the buzzer is helpful to let you know there's a message or incoming call, although the delay is significant at times because it's using low-power bluetooth so it can take 1-10 seconds for the call/notification to push to the phone.

So, yes, you can be on the call and hang up, then the blaze starts to buzz insistently to notify you of the call you just received and answered. If your phone is on low-power settings, it can doubly delay the notifications until both devices are awake at the same time.

if you're actively using bluetooth at the same time, it's faster, i.e. bt headphones/speakers. I've never actually used the music controls all that often, but if you have BT speakers, it does work. There are infrequently BT sync problems as well, but it's designed to "work in the background". troubleshooting sync can be a major hassle due to this 'slow' connection.

  • Love my Blaze, had it for a couple of years now.. guess its getting replaced by the new ionic one

Seems like it’s $198 at JB Hifi with an extra band:
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/ipods-docks-fitness/fitbit/fitbit-…

    • Now says $288

  • Good deal. I got a Charge 2 recently and it works pretty well. There have been some quirks when trying to start an activity where it did not track the location - both when starting from the phone, or device - this may have been fixed through an app update. Does not integrate with Google Fit - except through 3rd party integration. However at least they provide APIs so you can perform that integration. I've got my NAS synchronising data on a nightly basis.

That said, I'm impressed with the Xiaomi Mi Band 2. The key thing missing with this is continuous heart rate monitoring.

  • From my experience with this watch (last year) there was a bug where the watch would continue to count time from the point you turned it off from.
e.g if you turned it off at 5 and turned it on at 8 then it would count from 5.
Synching was bad, it felt cheap and bad i just didn't like it. Would not recommend.
That's my two cents though so feel free to think otherwise.

  • Typical. I just bought 2 Charge 2's from Officeworks yesterday and they are at Big W for $29 less (tomorrow)$149. Would OW retroactively price match?

  • +2

Customer service of a Fitbit is good, but the reliability of the product is terrible. You've been warned

    • Gah!

So if mine crap out at some stage what would you recommend as a replacement?
We got the Charge 2's as a comparison, liked the idea of heart and sleep monitors. (Apparently those types of heart monitors are a bit hit and miss but so are most of the others?)

        Miband 2

        • Can't tell if serious or kidding? :)

        • @EightImmortals: Featurewise they're pretty similar, and they're like 1/5 of the price. Can also replace the band when required.

The amazfit bip/pace are a bit higher end. I hear the pace is being sold in the US so the software support is even better

        • @Davo1111: K thanks, I'll keep in mind for the future. :)

        • @EightImmortals:

I think it's the bip has open source firmware, which is kinda cool. although the design is a bit more ghetto

The fitness app on the miband 2 is ok, seems to get better each time. they dont try and make you pay to get "more" data like fitbit.

  • Love my blaze and still going strong. Best fitbit I've ever had.

  • I just, I can't.. I've been burnt so many times by Fitbit.. I love their replacement policy but after the 3rd it was just becoming annoying.

  • A post I made yesterday (granted it's not for the Blaze but still shows Fitbit's terrible quality);

I've had 3 of the wrist bands fail on my Fitbit Charge HR 1 and now I'm up to band number 4 on my Charge HR 2. Fitbit said the last time the weren't going to send me any more new bands even though the product isn't fit for service. I threatened with going to the ACCC and they said they would send me another - but apparently they had none in black and I had to settle for blue. For the last 2 replacment bands they said my product was on the way (when it wasn't) and I waited 2 weeks before contacting them again before they sent it out for real. Absolutely terrible quality for the product even though I do like the product technology.

I won't ever give them another cent though.

    • What about the device itself though?

      • The device itself is quite good for what I need it for. Steps / heart rate / sleep analysis / excercise tracking etc. but it all falls for me due to all the failures of the bands.

    • I've had a charge HR 1 for years and it's never been an issue. Band is fine. Not sure how you are getting such heavy strain on a wristband.

Maybe take it off when you hit up your hentai sites.

      • +2

Then how are we supposed to get our step count up?

    • Has your charge hr 2 been failing on software updates and bricking?i found this the biggest issue with the charge hr 1. Kept failing or not turning on after an update. Once in awhilr band started to bubble but it was still usable. It was the software side letting me down.

  • Respect to EC for his method on reducing the price even further.

However if you're too shy or can't be bothered doing a claim of a price difference, you can get the price down to $179.55 by getting WISH eGift cards through Cashrewards.

  • Just be aware that the blaze still has massive battery drain issues with the S8 - ever since the S8 came out. https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Blaze/Battery-drain-Notifica…

    • Does the charge hr 2 have battery issues with s8 users??

  • The Blaze is actually very ugly

    The Ionic is better looking

  • Samsung Gear Fit is also on sale on the same page for about the same price. Anyone owns one- is it comparable to the Blaze? Still having the original Fitbit Flex (yes, gen 1) and looking to upgrade.
