Will be using on carpet and tiles.

What type of carpet? Thick/lots or long pieces? How many rooms?
We had the Dyson ball type and upgraded to some strange imported brand at Godfreys due to severe allergies. The Dyson V6 cordless stick vacs are not bad on ebays sales for around $250 but 20min run time.
4 rooms, don't know what type of carpet it is but looking from the net cut pile?

$100 more than your budget but I highly recommend the Xiaomi robot vac. I had Dyson V8 as well as Miele C3, both had been prematurely retired since the Xiaomi came. It does both tiles and carpet.
I am saving up for a Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Gen 1 and for a cordless Dyson V6 when it goes on sale.
Have seen it for as low as $260 ish AUD delivered but hoping for sub $250 soon.
