One comment about these eco-drive watches. I thought they were a great idea when I first heard about them but after owning two I have found them to be frustrating. I have a few watches so cycle between wearing them. I keep them in a drawer when not wearing them. Because these are solar powered, they are almost always out of power when I go to wear them so I have to leave them in the sun for a few hours to charge up. I like the design and still wear them but just wanted to share this frustration.

Leave them out and they charge in pretty low light.

      • I like to keep watches in their original boxes. Unfortunately not an option with these. Don't get me wrong, I still like them. Just wanted to share a user story. Obvious downvotes for someone giving honest and real feedback on this site.

        • Not negging you, just giving my experience too. Have a + sir.

        • Now kiss!

    • Never really tested it out on my Eco Drive but its supposed to have a 7 month power reserve when fully charged.

      • +1

I found that they will go dead in about a month of no light.

    • +2

I've had no such problem. Unless you're leaving it in a drawer for months at a time I don't see it being an issue, especially compared to a mechanical watch. It won't hurt to take it out for a couple of hours every few weeks.

    • Haha. Solar powered watches don't work so well when stored in drawers. I have one too and realised this myself. I now keep it out in a location where it will get some light.

    • mine got condensed water in it whilst taking a shower and crown came off and lost. im gonna return it.

      • thanks for sharing, isnt water resistant supposed to cover this aspect? Im looking for a new watch too (considering I lost my previous watch when I had to wash my hands) that is water resistant

This guy discovered that independently, however despite the mild discomfort he still considered the Eco-Drive tech to be the best thing about these watches.

    • My experience with them is bad. I don't normally wear watches. So that one time every 2 years that I do. The capacitor had gone bad and needs a replacement. It's happened twice

        I don't normally wear watches.

that one time every 2 years that I do

Bro, stuff Eco-Drive. They are for suckers. Get this and you're set for life

Far too sophisticated for me. And I'm not worthy.

I don't know why that was ever expired.
I never saw it go up in price?

      • Well then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's.

My seiko solar watch will charge to full in 7 hours (iirc) under a fluro, its an hour or two under full sun.

Mine sits under the cuff of my shirt every day and ive never had any issues when treating it like a normal watch.

I bought this watch a couple of weeks ago and it is awesome. i sat it on the window sill for 4 hrs in direct sunlight and it shuld now have an 8 month charge. However it'll always pickup extra charge from fluro lights or from being outside even on a cloudy day.

    This is a great deal

It's big for my skinny wrists. Wish it was under 40mm. I was looking for a decent Citizen Eco Drive watch this morning on Amazon, and the cheap and decent ones I saw there weren't shipped to Australia. Damn you, Amazon!

    • Did you see all the Invicta Pro-Diver watch posts lately?
They are awesome deals and 40mm diameter.

      • +1

Yeah. Not a big fan of Invicta watches. I am after either basic Seiko or Citizen around the $100 mark. I already have that cheapo Seiko 5 SNK807 (which has 37mm case. That's who skinny my wrists are lol), so something like that in Citizen, or one slightly different in Seiko etc.

        • They are mostly Seiko at heart, as the movement is a Seiko automatic.
You can buy lots of different parts to make it look how you want.

        • @WatchNerd: I wish I had the discipline and the know-how into that world of dismantling and putting watches together. Also, I can't stand watches with metal bracelets either. Generally, I like those minimalist-looking watches, and the ones with leather or NATO straps. All those big, metal-bracelet watches, and the so-called chronograph watches aren't my thing. Anyway, I closely watch your posts, as well as the posts of the other watch enthusiasts here, so you guys will hopefully post the type I have in mind in the near future, so thanks for the help. :)

          @AussieDaddy:

You can change the bracelet to a Nato strap.
Here is an awesome looking mod on a Nato strap.

        • @WatchNerd: That one looks actually quite good. It's just that I'm inherently lazy and can't be bothered to get into changing and swapping things. Something like changing a strap or a bracelet is OK, but anything more than that, and I will probably put it aside and forget about it for good. Can't afford that on a part-time income. lol

  • Out of topic but I really really regret buying watches. Many from starbuy. Yes cheap good quality but just I wish I didn't buy.

Can I resell them? Most of time just sit on the drawer.

    • Haha, join the club.
Of course you can sell them, there is a huge market for 2nd hand watches.

      • ok. alright maybe ill see if i have free listing offer from ebay then i will sell.
all only around 150$ each but total 5 of them and i am sad by just thinking of it now. $$$ in the drawer.

        • How much are you looking to sell them at?

        • @sky blu:

Maybe you should PM each other as you could be heading into private selling territory, which isn't allowed in the comments.

Also, this awesome website has a Classified Section where you can list the watches for free.

        • @sky blu: dont know yet will check sold prices on ebay 2morrow

  • This one seems cheap if you like big (46mm) dive watches.
    Citizen Eco-Drive AW1420-04E $159.00 shipped.

The only thing is the lugs aren't standard, so you will struggle to find a strap replacement.

  • Great price considering it is $350 here

    • +1

That's a ripoff. This is a decent, but fairly standard price for this watch. (It is good value though)

      • Agreed.

      • +1

This is a new model, maybe you are thinking of the Citizen AW1360-04E.
I can't find it cheaper anywhere else.

        • You're right.

  • Back at $129.
