I Want to Start Streaming. Can This PC Do It?

Hey Everyone,

I have been gaming my entire life and as of recently an avid Twitch follower. I have a PS4 Pro, Xbox One X and a PC. I wanted to start streaming socially and was wondering if my PC would support it?

My critical specs are as follows:

Intel Core i5 7500 CPU with MSI H270 Gaming M3 MB and Corsair 16GB DDR4 RAM
ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1060 AMP! Edition, 6GB
Western Digital WD Green 240GB SSD
Western Digital WD Blue 2TB, WD20EZRZ
Corsair VS550 550W Power Supply
Corsair Hydro Series H55 Quiet Liquid CPU Cooler

Anyone else on OzBargain a streamer?

Any advice is always appreciated :)

As long as your PC can run the game, you should be alright to stream. It's your upload speed that's the bottleneck.

    • Am I able to play on console? Would prefer to stream while playing with friends and they are all on PS4.

I've tried streaming to YouTube from my PS4. Just did it a few days ago, in fact. First time doing it, so I might want to do more. I only have 1Mbps uploads. Here's the quality of the uploads. It's not fantastic. Thank you, Aus Internet.

        • Nice.

    • Seconded. That - plus if OP wants to stream online games which will take up bandwidth as well… yeah. Aussie internet is not the best.

  • I can get as low as 20Mbps down and 4Mbps up at times via WiFi so I guess that will permit me from streaming? I have unlimited downloads and my average ping on most games is 30.

    • 4Mbps upload will be very good for streaming.

      I'm jealous.

      • The NT isn't so bad after all! :P ha ha

I will try streaming tonight either on my PS4 Pro or Xbox One X..

        • "NT isn't so bad after all"
          Don't get carried away

        • @original15: I'm sorry, I'll take my inflated wages, low cost property market, little to no commute and fast internet and be on my way.

        • @ThePriceMatchGuy:
Hahaa since when is it low cost
Rent was ridiculous for what you got when I was there in 2010
How good is the commute tho

        • @original15: I do feel you. In 2010 you couldn't find a decent place for the life of you! I'll put it in perspective, you can now rent a nice apartment, furnished for no more than $400.

Tone down your settings so your PC can game and do the encoding and uploading.

Make sure your upload rate meets the recommended streaming criteria.

Quick Reddit discussion threads I found relating to streaming and upload rates.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Twitch/comments/3leo7f/full_guide_f…

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Twitch/comments/4c7cnm/how_much_upl…

And some extra information for the viewers not streamers themselves.

Some hardcore streamers have a dedicated PC to handle all the extra grunt work like live encoding and uploading etc but most streamers can do fine with just one I believe.

Hope this helps and good luck man or woman XD ~!

    • Can't really do much if I have a console, can I? What you saw in the video up there is as good as it gets, and that's late at night when my speeds are the fastest.

      • Fair enough. What internet connection and plan are you on atm?

I believe I am FTTN but only on 12/1 atm.

        • I'm on Vivid Wireless, and they have stated that their upload speeds are 1Mbps and I generally get that.

As for NBN, it's not going to be in my area until 2019. And even then, I bet it's going to pushed further back. I expect we'll have flying cars before I get NBN.

        • @flaminglemon: damn ok so similar connection to me however I can change it up to 25/5 or 50/20 or 100/40 I think from my current 12/1 if I decide to move plans and pay more at least I have that option for me.

  • Try to get a faster cpu.

  • I don't think you need a PC if you're planning on live streaming from PS4.

I was looking up tutorials for the playstation camera after getting the VR set, and I swear I saw a video which shows you how to steam games and have a video of you included as well.
