What are good watches for kids?

I am after a decent waterproof watch for 2 girls, aged 8 and 9 which have your standard timer functions and so on. Also after something which will look like lasting them until their late teens.

The obvious starting point were Baby G's but I do not have much insight when it comes to watches as to what is decent and what isn't.

Any suggestions?

Can't go wrong with Baby G. Very durable, can take a lot of punishment.

Quality if you want it to last, Seiko perhaps? Either way, they won't be wearing this watch in their teens.

There is no way a teenage girl will be wearing a watch she got as an 8 year old, think short term 2-3 years perhaps before she asks Daddy for a new one.

You can't go wrong with Casio, here is a link to Amazon for Baby-G's
Not all will ship here, but click on each one & it will say if it does or not.

You can use Camel to check the average price.

I just posted this one as a deal after looking on Amazon -
    Casio Baby-G US$48.92 (~AU$64.50) Shipped @ Amazon

I don't have any kids, but surely you will NEVER find something that they will want to wear from 8 til 18 years old?

Well from 8 until such time as they have a job and buy themselves a watch. And when looking at watches, Baby G's have not changed much at all in general design over the past decade so 10 years out of them would be doable I reckon.

    Full stop.

    • For kids, girls no less, you must be joking.

      • Of course I'm joking. The comment was just tongue-in-cheek, as that's the watch in my profile pic and the one I wear too :)

I am a fan of Casio G shock watches.

Owned several when I was a kid.

All had timers and stopwatch and countdown and some even multiple timezones etc.

Can't remember the exact model atm but if I do I will let you know.

Quick Google searching found me this:

But I'm sure you can find cheaper if you look hard enough.

    This looks promising

But honestly I think you could find better quality and features / functionality in the adults section but the kids sections has some good Disney and stuff like this options.

    Good luck OP.

That is the Skmei 1163 which can be found for around $10.00. I wouldn't rely on it being waterproof.
      Skmei 1163 $11.44 shipped

Good call I forgot to check if it has good waterproofing.

I still remember water logging and damaging some if my old watches because I thought they were waterproof just buy the design.. oh twelve year old me

Honestly at that age don't get any heirlooms, as its guaranteed to go missing/broken/stolen well before they are in their teens.
My advice is to get something cheap and buy a few of them.

This so much this.. even if they get destroyed that become good nostalgia pieces as paperweights when you eventually stumble upon them when you clean out your childhood belongings haha lol

I agree the kids won't like to wear that same watch all these years. At 8 or 9,I think it's still a good idea to get them analogue watches as school has lots of time related things in maths. My kid in primary used Swatch irony with numbers for hours and minutes. The eldest usually wears a Pebble time smartwatch but still wore a Swatch Automatic for high school and uni exams (as no smartwatch allowed).

  • I would have thought as soon as the child is allowed a mobile phone a watch becomes redundant given girls are obsessed with mobiles and have then on 24/7?
