For some reason Amazon is allowing shipping to Australia for their currently discounted LIFX bulbs. I suspect this is their lowest ever price for Amazon. Here's the cost breakdown using their currency converter and Sydney as the shipping destination:
Items: AUD 46.25
Shipping & handling: AUD 8.83
Total before tax: AUD 55.08
Estimated tax to be collected: AUD 0.00
Order total: AUD 55.08

No doubt you can get it cheaper using your own 28 degrees card.

  • Looks like cheaper than the $60 black friday sale. Mini hardly any cheaper though.

Was $54 shipped on cyber monday but still a great deal!

  • I have a couple of Lifxs I use and also bought a couple of Xiaomi's over the last couple of weeks that I haven't started playing around yet. What's the general opinion on these two? why would one pay almost triple that of a Xiaomi for a lifx?

    • Why do people pay 3x for Apple products - I guess this is the premium product in this category. The app is much better, you don't need a hub, the founder was an Aussie(!) etc.

      • Xiaomi doesn't need a hub either from what I understood and I get lifx is premium, but what I'm wondering is whether there's any difference in usability? their app is certainly polished, especially compared to what they started with :D

        • Yes it would be good to hear from someone who has used both over a period of time.

        • @leTintin: I have many of both. Yes the lifx is better. Heaps brighter and i personally prefer the LIFX app. 1 lifx globe is bright enough to light a small room, whereas yeelight you would need at least 2 or 3. However, i actually prefer a few in different locations in a room not at full brightness, more ambience.

The fact that you can buy 3 or 4 yeelights for the price of 1 LIFX for me is a hands down winner for Yeelight.

In conclusion, if you are wanting to make a room as bright as possible with few lights, with a nice polished app to boot go the LIFX. If your not bothered about brightness and want mood lighting and want to save $$ go the yeelight.

      • Yeelights connect via wifi, no hub required. App imo the yeelight app is much better than the lifx in terms of layout and ease of use. Yeelight light switch override works better than lifx also, just flick the switch twice and it will turn on. Lifx you have to flick, wait, then flick.

Lifx has brightness and colour range to its advantage.

        • LIFX can be turned on by turning the wall switch off then on again. To reset to default white and 100% brightness, you do it twice….but you dont need to wait.

I only have LIFX so I can't offer a comparison, but I can say I really like them. I wouldn't pay RRP but I bought $500 worth on Sunday…..really wish I'd waited til Monday.

    • Also interested in hearing opinions about this as I'm about to deck out several areas of my home. Thanks!

    • Wrong quote…

Light output, ~600 vs 1100lumens. I don't think it's worth the price premium but there's no other options I know of, I have both and the lifx makes a massive difference.

For anyone wanting white light for lamps, I'd go the Philips Xiaomi over the yeelights because brightness appearance is pretty much the same.

Yeelight is mainly good for accent lighting only.

    • I bought the Yeelight and I like it, but it is a shame that it is a COLD white light.. not very nice.. gives the environment a sterile vibe. Looks like you can change the colour on these Amazon ones to a warm light. Not sure it is worth triple the price though.

      • There's yeelight RGB, sound like you got the yeelight white.

        • Yes, I did. But I have also ordered a RGB. If the RGB can do a warm colour then that sounds good.
Another thing I have noticed is that these Yeelights get VERY hot, hopefully they are safe.

    • I'm hoping as someone who has both you can tell me.

    • Better responding through wifi control,
Better brightness range (both minimum brightness and full brightness ends are much better),
      Better true color range,
Better build quality (metal body vs plastic),
Brightness and color not stored in yeelight if turned off and on the physical switch,
And shorter for specific needs if required(115mm vs 120mm)

You will notice the difference when you use both of them. For me I do need Lifx level of color quality in my kitchen, living, theatre and master room, I am fine to fill Yeelights into the rest of the house like corridor, small bedrooms, laundry, change room or toilet.

    • As a home with Apple devices, if it was me it'd be for Homekit support so I can use Siri to manage the lights with my voice or so that I could configure everything in the Apple Home app, particullarly given I have other Homekit accessories.

Don't believe the Xiaomi support homekit and while I have a Homebridge PC that may allow me to fudge together the functionality, I find the native devices generally work better.

Already invested in Hue but would consider diversifying beyond that but Homekit would be a must to bring it all together.

    • My take is those who have Lifxs are really happy with it and those who have Yeelights (like me) are really happy with them as well but at a fraction of the cost.

    • You are right.
I believe Philips Hue is better. :))))

  • I have over a dozen LIFX bulbs. They are amazing. However I didn't pay more than about $16 each for them, on same super clearance deal here ages ago.

They are the rolls Royce of smart bulbs it seems.

If I had to replace them, there's no way I can justify to my wife paying $50+ for a light bulb. I'd probably go with Xiaomi Phillips.

    • Where did you get them for $16? I've been watching the price for about 2 years and never seen them that low.

I thought $40 delivered was a good deal!

        • Yeah easily justifiable at $40. Bought 5 that time.

      • I've just gone back and checked. I confess that it seems I was wrong. I had initially bought some at USD$30 each. However, I just checked my email and I'd bought a bunch more in mid-October.

This email was on 17 Oct 2016:
        Order Total: $14.99 USD

  • Do these changes colour to music?

    • They don't have an inbulti mic to do so - but I believe the mobile app can listen and change the lights to sound / music.

    • Yes but the mobile app has an annoying delay. On the weekend I bought a windows app named lifxDynamic for $1.50. I'd estimate delay is less than 150ms. It's really reactive and customisable. I was so impressed that I bought more LIFX stuff.

  • Is it 240v?
