Multiple Unauthorized $1 Apple Music Charges in The One Day

Hi Team,

So out of the blue, I have had 3x $1 Apple Transaction today. I haven't bought or changed anything for while, and haven't used apple music for over a year.

They are sitting in pending only right now, should I just wait and see what happens or start making phone calls?

  • Aren't they those scam emails that ask you to log in if you didn't make the purchase, then take you to a fake login page to grab your info?

“When you update your billing information in the iTunes, iBooks, and App Store, or add a member to your Family Sharing group, a temporary authorization hold for a nominal amount is placed on your credit card or the payment method that you have on file. Like many other merchants, iTunes uses authorization holds to confirm that your payment account is active and has the funds available for purchases.”

Also. nothing in the iTunes Store costs $1.

So, if you’ve not updated anything on your Apple ID recently, it might be worth spending some time securing your account today:

  • I had two $1 on my AMEX from Google this week in pending and I did not buy anything from GooglePlay either. They have now dropped off and have not charged. Weird. Still no idea what that was.

    • Similar to thewinchester's post, if you are absolutely certain you've not done anything to explain it (checked that your partner/family members didn't register it somewhere etc), then my recommendation is to be vigilant and check your card transactions regularly, because it could mean your card was compromised and fraudsters are checking if the account is valid (they like doing this too).

If you wanted to be proactive, you could call and request a new card/report it lost…sometimes lodging disputes is a PITA.

I used to work in credit card fraud and google play, Sony, iTunes, PayPal etc were all popular test sites for frausters

  • Your credit card could be compromised. Be vigilant.

Start making phone calls. Firstly to your bank/financial institutions' after hours emergency number (now) to report what you've noticed.

They'll advise as to the next steps.

    • A quick call could save further pain, better to be safe than sorry and waiting 6 weeks for the bank to sort it out over Holiday period.

  • From experience I would say they are simply "authorisation" from iTunes to ensure your credit details are valid. I've seen these about once a year on my credit card, and I rarely purchase anything in iTunes/App Store. These charges are always $1 and disappear after some time. However, I've never had more than one charge in one day. Keep an eye on them. If you're concerned, give your credit card company a call - they're always happy to help out (in my personal experience, anyway).

  • is the credit card from NAB AMEX?

  • @Cypher67 did you come to a resolution was it CC check by apple or dodgy business transactions?

    • Never got a reason why, but the transactions disappeared. I have 3 devices using that apple ID so maybe thats why

  • The op is a taker not a giver..

Sorry all, yeah the transactions went away. Thanks all for the advise and I did change all my passwords just to be safe

    • It's good info to know if i ever see them on my CC,

I have had other businesses do a similar thing as part of the verification of adding a CC to an account but the only reason i knew was they actually stated it on the screen prior to you requesting the verification.

Actually Qantas did it today when i updated CC

      • Yes, if you've done something like updated it with a merchant and that explains it, then fine. But if you haven't, then it could mean your cc details have been compromised and a fraudster is testing to see if the card is still active/valid…

    • If these were on your credit card card, it could still be compromised…
