Free Range Eggs 700g at ALDI $4

92

Cheaper than $4.20 at Coles which is already a decent price and you reap the benefit of not visiting that overpriced dumpster.

"Free range" is a very loose and emotional term for some, but at least they're not cage eggs. Compared to Aldi's 700g cage eggs at $2.79, these are only $0.10c more an egg and hopefully some people will stop buying cage eggs when the price difference is so minor.

Edit: a couple of people have pointed out this is the normal price and I even missed it when taking the picture, it's the first time I've seen it at this great price. Should I delete the post?

Edit 2: From a comment below: https://www.choice.com.au/food-and-drink/meat-fish-and-eggs/…
So these eggs aren't all that "Free range", it sucks that Aldi is participating in it. I hope they're better than cage eggs as a few people were buying them.

Been $4 for a few months.

Since 30/6 according to that photo so it's just Aldi's normal price.

  • Not really worth the trip to Aldi for the sake of 20 cents. Will cost me more than that in fuel for the extra kms, time and stress in the car park due to where my local store is.

    • Thanks for that.

    • Coles ones are $5 at our local. I looked at them today.

      • Bought some yesterday from Coles $4.20 on Down Down / Everyday Price

        • Strange then that the one we went to was $5.
          Different state prices maybe.

ALDI Lodge Farm "free range eggs" aren't really that free as it doesn't comply with the CSIRO Model Code.
So you are paying more money for minimal benefit.

I prefer them caged anyway. I don't want them running around not focusing on their job.

THIS. Thank you! I trust Aldi more than most chains, but their "free range" eggs are bullshit.

I think a good test is to ask if the same company also runs a battery farm. If so, don't buy.

https://joshsrainboweggs.com.au/ <— I get these from Coles; might be a Vic only thing but they're the best choice I've found.

    • I didn't know either - thanks for the link. They're not as free range as one would hope :(

    • The corporations saw the dollar signs, 'free range' doesn't mean what it used to.

Yep. You can download "CluckAR", Choice's Augmented Reality Free Range Egg detector app which give the lowdown on how "free range" your cackleberrys are. It comes free with criminally bad puns.

  • Just in different box then double the price?

Normal price, so where is the bargain. Otherwise we can post every since Aldi product as a bargain Eg ETON Biscuits vs JATZ, Aldi butter vs Coles/Woolworths

I guess an egg is an egg, brand name doesn't make a difference.

    • +2

ALDI butter this week is literally 1c cheaper than Coles/IGA/Woolworths!

I noticed this today too - did Aldi's price rise just happen?

        • +1

2 or 3 weeks ago all 4 stores were charging $2.90 (up from $2.60). Now the other 3 charge $2.80 and $5.00 for 500g. In 1999 the price was 49c and almost nothing else in the supermarket has risen so steeply in price.

      • +1

better post it as a bargain…

        • That could be an effective way of discovering if anyone can identify a lower price.

  • +1

This has been normal price since June/July, maybe before.
    Not a bargain.
    Not a deal.

  • Been this price for a few months

Drakes had real free range eggs (Sunny Queen) for $2.70 last week. what a steal.

  • +2

Milk is also cheaper. Might be worth updating the post to reflect this

    • Aldi product (most of the items) quality also same as it's prices…

  • You people eating free range eggs are truly evil. Forcing those poor chickens outside to hunt for food in all weathers, when their caged cousins get to lie in bed all day and have their food brought to them. I hope that when you are all in the retirement home that YOU get turned out to forage for food, while us caged egg eaters get our meals served to us. Such cruelty. I'll bet you eat chicken though, right?
