Acer International Warranty? (Buy Local or Amazon)

So, I'm thinking of buying an acer aspire 15 for a family member so I looked around and found 2 products.

One from Harvey Norman: (usual specs for this laptop) but with 1 TB HDD and 720p resolution for $718 (They wouldn't even lower 1 cent when I went to them)

One from Amazon US: 256GB SSD and 1080p resolution for $730 (includes import tax and shipping costs).

This laptop is easily upgradable (I can get another HDD or SSD + more ram) and obviously, Amazon US is offering the better deal.

However, Harvey Norman offers 1 year warranty, while I'm not sure about Amazon.

  1. Will Acer Australia acknowledge the 1 year warranty?

  2. If they only acknowledge it in the US, would Amazon help me if anything goes wrong? so would I be able to send it to the US to be fixed and would I have to pay for shipping costs??

  3. Which one would you pick?

  • Never heard a new laptop having much problems within an year hence 2nd
    Not 2 mention ssd

    • Yeah, fair point. I've had a lot of laptops and usually, the problems are like 3+ years down the line (Usually just needs new thermal paste or clean out the fan).

So, you reckon overall its worth going with amazon?

      • Is $730 AUD or USD? Do you have a fee-free card or are you using Amazon conversions?

        • So, this is the final price I get when I reach the final page before I pay (It calculates the import fee + shipping fee as well). So, yes it is AUD

I think its like $515 USD

I logged into my bank account and my bank statement shows a previous item I bought from Amazon, it is exactly the same as how much it said it stated it cost in the Amazon page (it was only $40 though)

So, I assume there isn't a fee included?

Wait, just looked into it and you're right.
They charged me 4%, so I'd have to pay an extra $20-30.

Thanks for bringing attention to this, it is the banks so I'm not surprised by their greed.

        • @BarginGrabber: I am more surprised that you didn't know this.(Perhaps lay off the Gin)

Cards with No Overseas Transaction Fees

      • Assuming you've done rest of the research about usd conversion fee and specs I think it is good to go.

I would gone with new ryzen laptops which come with Vega GPU

        • I'm not restricted to these laptops, I just figured these were decent for how much they go for (I'm not willing to break the bank for this laptop).

I've never gone with AMD and I have no idea how good AMD is as well. If you have a laptop that is as good, if not better than 940MX and 7th gen i5 for around $700-750 then throw me a link.

          https://www.kotaku.com.au/2017/11/amds-ryzen-finally-arrives…
Basically amd's ryzen chips are cheaper with more threads , so you get better bang for buck which can be utilized for better gpu or rest of the specs

  • Acers domestic warranty is shit…. Good luck getting international support from them.

  • Warranties are a con because you are covered by ACL.

    They're worthless.

  • Amazon will help you if you have an issue within the first 30 days. After that, they'll officially offer no support, but you may get customer service reps who play nice. If your item is defective on arrival/in the first 30 days, Amazon will cover the cost of shipping it back.

Acer US only has an international TRAVELLERS warranty designed for people who live in America and are travelling to another country temporarily. It requires a US address to do an RMA.

  • I can get another HDD or SSD

Do you know how to ghost or clone a hdd?
