    • Didn't they abandon the season pass?

    • Showing as $13.49 USD for me for Digital Deluxe and the Season pass is a $4.50 DLC, might want to include that for people who already own.

Remember when Steam sales didn't suck?

    • +9

No. Memories start to degrade after a decade or more…… or has it been longer.

      • How is that a sheep opinion? Maybe you're too young or something but in the day, and I mean seriously, a loooong time ago, well before prices were in US currency, the sales were awesome.

Now, even on sale, I can almost always find a better deal with a quick google check. that is NOT an awesome sale.

And it's been that way a long time.

If that's a sheep opinion, then in this case I reckon the sheep are right.

        • -6

It is a sheep opinion because nothing is going to impress anyone anymore, everyone has a library with well over 200 games. The sales previously weren't as amazing as you're saying, recently released games weren't $5 it was games 2-3 years old. I'm just over the same stupid rhetoric that comes out every single year. Move the (profanity) on.

        • @kaneissik: It isn't a sheep opinion, the sales aren't as good anymore because other websites and even the physical retail stores here in Australia often have their own sales or just flat out sell the game cheaper than buying via the steam client itself.

They weren't the same amount of options to buy steam keys outside the client itself, thus making the sales on steam itself better at the time.

          @andigaming:

Yeah EB Games sure has some good sales.

    • +10

      I member!!

    • +5

I'm not sure if they suck now or I've just got older and own too many games I've never played

    • +5

It's when they got rid of the flash sales that it became not so great.
      I want my discounts maximised!

      • -3

So either you get flash sales or refunds, which one?

        • +1

Give me flash sales with no refunds :)

        • +1

@CriticalImpact: That just seems silly. Refunds were a great addition to Steam and flash sales were anti-consumer - not everyone has the time to sit there and watch for deals every few hours (I know this is the wrong place to say that, but it needs to be mentioned). The deals are pretty much just as good as they used to be, minus what the flash sales knocked off.

    • +1

So very true, I think the bulk of game purchases from steam store were prior to 2016.
Sales are only good on Steam for dlc for me.
I also miss the community tasks, which disliked when they were happening…

and for the love of gabe, use enhanced steam as a lot of other retailers have sales at the same time and quite a few are better priced.

    • They haven't gotten worse particularly, it's more so the state of the Australian dollar. They certainly "didn't suck" in 2012-14 when a 2.99usd game converted to 2ish aud.

It has allways been the case, however, that better prices can usually be found on Amazon, GOG, gamersgate, GMG at the same time or a week after steam sales.

      • +2

Didn't have anything to do with the dollar, its always been about USD prices.

The old sales had some great deals, now its all just about the same.

        • I beg to differ..
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/110015

A 29.99 game then was roughly $32.50 Australian.
Now a similar aged game at the same price is $39.51.

The vast majority are the cheaper, some are alot cheap, fewer are the same price and rarely are they more expensive this time round.Comparing "recent" then to "recent" now, Bioshock infinite (39.99USD) was a recent release at the time, comparable to say, Prey ($19.97 USD) now. Seems to me we are getting a much better deal. For time-tested, older and very well received titles similarly aged from release to sale date - Witcher 3 GOTY now (19.99USD) would be comparable to Skyrim Legendary Edition ($29.99USD) for the times. Still not seeing how the deals are worse and its not about the exchange rate. In fact it would appear from every price I've looked into we are getting significantly better deals now.

        • I never considered AUD prices.

Its always been USD, the resulting exchange wasn't something I taking into account.

There used to be flash sales within the main sales were fairly recent games were taken down to 70% or what ever. There used to be some really good sales within the sale.

Now its just all standardized, its always purely based on how long the games been out. Recent stuff gets 30-40%, old stuff get 80% or whatever, and so on.

The old Steam sales had some real bargains, now its just all the same, theres no real difference between each steam sale. usually places like GMG have sales that are better than Steam, where as Steam used to have some of the best prices around.

    • +3

During the the best sales we also had dollar parity too, so now we get worse sales and a crappier exchange rate.

      • Thanks alot Christopher Pyne.

    • Been a long time.

I think valve learned they didn't need to do really good sales to sell shit at one point.

      • It was all about market saturation for their software platform.

    • Pepperidge Farm remembers.
… If it wasn't for GoG and the occasional Humble bundle I wouldn't get excited about game sales at all anymore.
What happened to you Steam ? You used to be cool.

    • You mean like when this was still relevant?

I like to wait for (PC) titles to dip below AU$30 before I consider them a sale item.

So far, I've found Sniper Elite 4 to be the only one I want on their list; happy that it's down below AU$30.

    • +14

      heh, you're more charitable than me; I wait until they're $5 …

      • +1

        Pffft, I wait until they're free…

  • +10

I like the sales, but goodness, nearly 2018 and there's no option to show costs in AU.

    • -1
      • +5

…bet they'll slap on their currency conversion and or other fees on top of that making the final value more expensive than if had paid in USD….

  • Unreal Tournament collection $8UDSD = $11AUD

Always wanted to play 2004 and Unreal tournament 3 seemed like a good time to get it

  • +6

Really wish they would hurry up and covert to AUD currency.

    • +1

They seem to convert to the AUD number in the Aus store, but leave it as USD, so you pay the spread twice.

      • +2

No, thats just publishers putting the price up manually to get more money from Australians.

        • Indies are inflated the same. Have seen Twitter conversation with smallish company who put their packs on Steam as well as still selling direct like they always had. Same Aus store markup applied, he said it's nothing in their control and just keep buying direct through their own website.

      • +1

Yep, we pay the inflated US price as well. Honestly, for a while now I've had better deals through CDKEYS.com and the like.

  • Nothing really blowing up my skirt this time around, plus the Halloween sales the other week pretty much cleared my wishlist.

Think I'll wait till the Christmas ones.

Half-Life Complete Bundle is now for USD4.48 or ~AUD$5.89. My first FPS with Gordon Freeman my favourite theoretical physicist.

The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings Enhanced Edition $2.99 US and historical low for Steam - 85% off

    • That's honestly just obscene. Brilliant game.

  • +3

Check greenman instead. They seem to be beating it all without the Steam Au inflation, plus a further 20% off with GMGBF

  • With dozens of VR games on my wishlist and after getting an email with "25 titles on your wishlist are on sale", I was looking forward to stocking my library…

Only 2 on sale and they are both only 20% off. Sadboys.

  • Disappointed that Nier is still only 40% off

  • what's the cheapest someone has found COD WW2 for?

Steam Link selling for $4.99US for people in the US, here you have to buy it from EB for $89.95 😂😂😂

Wonder if EB will have it on sale any time soon again.

    • Can find it on ebay from 30-50

      • I'm not interested in buying one, already have a PC hooked up to my TV. Just read the comment on Reddit about how cheap the Steam Link was going for, only to search for it on Steam and it comes up as $4.99US then you go to the page and you have to buy it off EB.

Better off waiting till they have it on sale again for $27, but does just show how big of a rip off it is with having only EB as the distributor in Australia.

        • Shipping would make that deal moot anyway, it's what I saw when ICEY was being bundled with it. And yeah, EB is a scam.

Steam Link plus $20 steam card for $29 at Ebgames from tomorrow 12:01am November 24th 2017

      • +1

        Good find!

      • +1

Only available online, unfortunately. Can't pick up from store. Shipping makes it less of a deal, but still good.

        • it says i can buy it from stores. stock is available near my stores but not for home delivery.

  • is it possible to buy games from different regions in Steam?

COD WW2 goes for $31.99 and PUBG goes for $10.49 in South Asia region. I am thinking of asking my South Asian friend to buy me those and I will paypal him after.

    • +1

Using VPNs to get past the regional restrictions can get you banned as it's against their ToS:

You agree that you will not use IP proxying or other methods to disguise the place of your residence, whether to circumvent geographical restrictions on game content, to purchase at pricing not applicable to your geography, or for any other purpose. If you do this, Valve may terminate your access to your Account.
      3:A

Certain games have region restrictions when they're purchased as a gift, I'm pretty sure in the checkout it tells you if there is.

      • i am not talking about using VPN at all, I can play PUBG bought on South Asian account here in Australia without VPN, so it seems possible that my friend can create a SA account and load it with PUBG and give me the details.

        • Well you asked if you can buy games from different regions which would mean VPN. Account sharing is also against ToS but I've never heard of them enforcing that, much like the buying from another region.

        • @kaneissik: i was just using his account to test whether it works, its not like I am going to use it indefinitely and even if I do, we wont be able to play against/with each other anyway.

        • +1

          @yummycoot:

Yeah, I don't think it's that big of a deal, I've never read reports of anyone being banned for it, I just know it's in the ToS.
