Suggestions on a Light, Easy to Handle Leaf Blower

Im on hunt for a leaf blower. Currently eBay has 20 percent coupon on and these came up on my searches

This is also a gift — basically buying it for my 50+ year old uncle so hopefully it's not overly heavy. Small front courtyard with medium sized backyard (no grass, just trees).

Update: I ended up buying this Baumr-AG 20 volt blower for $95.20

I'd suggest going to your local Bunnings and try some out. That way you have a receipt and easy returns :)

  • Bought my Ryobi NiCd leaf blower in 2010 and it's still used all the time. The battery it came with is shot now though. However, since it uses the same 18+ series of batteries I had a spare from my other gear.

At that time, I think I only bought it for only around $80.

It's quite light and easy to handle. I remember my then 5 year old having fun 'helping' daddy.

Drawbacks include a "limited" runtime - in this case limited being compared to corded versions (but I've never had that problem considering I only use it for small spaces) And also the lack of the vacuum mode.

Mine looks like this only in the original yellow that the NiCd Ryobi gear came in.

  • I can only advise which one Not to buy. I bought Aldi one similar to Ozito. It is heavy and do poor job. My mistake - I did not use it for first 60 days of purchase.

    • Thanks. I actually have an Ozito one, which appears to be this but it's an outdated version. It was a dumpster drive pickup which worked for 1 week and then died afterwards.

  • Is it for picking up the leaves, or just blowing them away? Blowing them off the property might be considered littering and is definitely rude to your neighbours. If it is just to blow them into one corner to pick them up consider getting a blower/vac, but they are a bit heavier.

Does your uncle have any cordless power tools? Can you get one that uses the same batteries? I have a Ryobi 18v One+ blower. Works fine, light, easy to use but not especially powerful I find it great for blowing grass clippings off the path back onto the lawn and a quick cleanup of the back verandah.

    • Nope, owns no power tools of his own. Most of the stuff he borrows from me, but all I have are crappy Ozito wired tools.

Ryobi vacs looks good, if I end up buying the Ryobi perhaps I'll also buy Ryobi tools of my own

I got my grandmother the smaller ozito power xchange model. She is 85+ so weight was important. It replaced washing down the verandah and works well. The smaller ones are not much cheaper than the full sized models so it might not be worth it for everyone.

I own 5 different blowers, most are commercial ones and would be overkill for him. I do however have the Ozito Power-x-change blower that I mainly use when camping and in the shed/garage, it's never going to out perform it bigger brothers but it is nice and light and still packs a decent punch. IMHO the vacs are always a waste of time, it is usually far quicker and less cumbersome to blow every thing into a pile and then pick it up than using those heavy awkward blower vac contraptions.

  • I ended up with the eBay cheapie after all. It seems to be fairly simple..

Maybe too simple in fact, since the battery dock and battery itself has no LED lights or indicator showing that it needs charging or is being charged. Oops, it actually does have an LED.

eBay desc says it requires 4 hours to charge.

Battery is 1500mah 20 volt, with stated runtime of 9 to 12 minutes.

Hi guys, looking to get a cordless leaf blower to make drying my car easier. Budget is $200ish. Wondering what people here use? Not sure what to get, will spend a bit extra since i'll probably be using this for years to come.

    Cheers

I bought the DEWALT DCM562 / DCBL720 18V / 20V LITHIUM ION XR BRUSHLESS CORDLESS BLOWER for around $200 online as the bare tool.

I already had the 4.0 amh DeWalt battery and charger so it wasn't a big deal. It is like a hand held tornado. Very happy with it.

My dad would call a cordless leaf blower, me holding a rake.

      • Good luck drying your car with a rake…

    • Ego ones pop up in eBay and gumtree pretty often for pretty cheap prices.

    • Your neighbours will love you every time you wash your car

      I wouldn’t do it, it’ll leave streaks.

Is there a reason not to drive around the block if it needs to be dried straight away?

Drying with a microfibre cloth would take the same time and save you $

What about all the dirt that gets blown at your car at high velocity?

A nice amount of rocks and sand at an odd 300kmh?
