I thought so too until I've realised oops this is $100/$20 whereas that one is 20% of your spend up to $40 which is quite different.

Targeted. Didn’t appear in my account.

  • It appears in my account. American Express Qantas Discovery card.

    • It's not in my Qantas Discovery account but is in my Gold account..

    • Also have an Amex Qantas discovery, Where should I check for targeted offers? I thought amex got rid of amexconnect login.

Is it offers tab on the account login via web browser? - I can see the 3m stan offer as "available" and 2 offers saved to card. Amex mobile app doesn't have the stan offer just the 2 saved to card.

      • You can log in Amex account and check the offer tab. If you have a mobile app you can check there too

  • Reading the full t&c's, would an ebay purchase be classified as 'third party'?

    C. Transactions that are not eligible
The following transactions are not eligible and will not count towards your spend for the purposes of the offer:
    * transactions where you do not spend directly with the merchant (for example, if you buy the merchant’s goods through a third party department store);

    • I suspect that once again it will work just like all other amex cash backs. Amex never seems to know what was bought, only the source of the credit card charge matters, when it comes to triggering the cash back.

  • Didn't get this one :(

  • Will this work with eBay?

  • None of my cards got it

  • Got it on my discovery card.

Great thing about this is the "one or more transactions" thing, meaning I can make multiple smaller purchases to make up the $100

Hmm wondering how I can use this to top up opal or buy gift cards..

    • +3

Answering my own question - either buy Westfield gift cards or Dan Murphys e gift cards and pay using PayPal.

      • I check the Dan Murphy's website but I cannot see the WISH egift card? Only the Dan Murphy's gift card.

        https://www.danmurphys.com.au/gift-cards

        • Yes - think of them as disguised wish gift cards - at least for me.
When you add em to the wish card iOS app, they show up perfectly and I already used them as Woolworths.

        • @tghtarse:

I see… too bad I miss it then. I called, the operator told me it is for Dan
Murphy and wont work for Woolworths

If you're with Sydneywater you can pay in 2 lots of $100, can pay in advance if you want unless you are moving out soon

    • Great idea mate, thanks

    • Wonder if we could do that that with other utility bills when paid via Aus Post Billpay using PayPal. Already paid the water bill, but have council rates to pay.

      • I wasn't aware of Aus Post Billpay using PayPal, however i think this would fall under 'third party' category

        • +2

Just tested this to pay council rate. Got the email right away

        • I paid AGL gas bill by pay pal from there website about $100 but did not get email.i am worried

        • @benhil:
Have you checked your amex transaction record though, sometimes you don't get the email

      • +4

Since the rates anyway had to be paid anyway, figured I'll try anyway. So made payment of $100 via BillPay using PayPal as the payment method.

Happy to say, received the email notification of "You’ve just used your PayPal Australia Online Amex Offer".

    Manual link anyone?

  • +1

Only appears on the Platinum Reserve for me - the Platinum Charge and Platinum edge seem to be excluded.

    • My Amex edge did not work even though I saved the offer and paid AGL bill by PayPal

      • Finally I got the credit

  • I did not get it either. Maybe they check which cards use paypal and target ones that don't?

    • Yes. I seconded that. That's why I got it but my wife didn't. Same card type.

      • Ok I am unlinking amex in paypal in protest ha ha

  • I got it on my low rate card but not on my Explorer. Only ever used the Explorer on PayPal for obvious reasons.

  • Alright, ozbargainers where can we get gift card / cash equivalent with this offer?

  • i got it under my regular amex .. is there a manual link? so i can try and apply for my bank issued amex?

Using the Sydney Water example up there, I’ve paid a >$200 invoice and an email saying $40 will be credited. I’ve noticed this happening of late (Adriano Zumbo for example) where your spend is double the minimum amount then the 2x credit will applied in one transaction as oppose over 2. I’ve tested this theory by paying a further >$200 invoice and that transaction triggered nothing.

  • Anyone ever paid off more than the required amount for a Telstra bill?
    My internet is literally $99.

    • Utilities usually just hold onto the credit for the next bill - If you pay $100, you'll have a $1 credit on your next bill.

    • +1

Have paid more than needed before on telstra and just got the next month for free*, so no issues there

*well not free as i'd already paid for it

  • +2

AGL bill and dan murphys wish cards
This is like free money ;)

    • Can you use Dan Murphy gift cards from Dan Murphy web site in Woolies supermarkets? Plastic or egiftcard makes any difference in this regard?

      • +3

Confirmed that the $100 DM eGift Card I purchased, when I enter it in the Woolies Money App, it's registered as a WISH Gift Card. So, 20% off.

        • Awesome, that means we can use it to buy fuel from Wooljerks too right

        • @montorola: You can use a WISH gift card at all participating Woolworths Group stores and online. The specific range will vary depending on the gift card you choose but generally includes: Woolworths Group Stores. Woolworths, Big W, Big W Vision, Masters Home Improvement, BWS, Dan Murphy's, Cellarmasters and Thomas Dux.

        • +1

          @Maki:

          Lol @ Masters Home Improvement

        • Is this the digital gift card from the DM online store?

    • What's the DM Wish Cards? Another Amex cash back offer?

      • Oh, you can buy a $100 Wish Gift Card at DM and pay with Paypal.

        • +3

Thanks coxymla for responding to coxymla

    • Not working when I paid agl

  • damn it, missed out again :(

  • Does that mean you can make a few separate transactions and still get the credit as long as it adds up to $100? E.g. $50 on ebay, $50 for a bill etc.

  • I just paid my council rate instalment $414 and got the congratulations email saying $40 will be credited to my account. Beauty of it also is no amex surcharge that I would have paid if paying to the council directly

    • +2

Did you pay in one go? Or 2 separate txn

      • 1 go, I didnt care if it didnt give me the full $40 as I could have earnt it elsewhere, but gave me the full $40

    • my rates charged a 0.75% surcharge.
So only $38.50 back for me ;)

  • not on my essential cc

  • got offer as well

  • I normally just pay with paypal balance, so when you pay for something over $100, you select paypal, and then use the amex credit cards instead of balance ? Does it cost to have paypal take out of your credit card ? I have added the amex card in paypal, is that all you have to do. Not a big paypal user….

    • +2

Doesn't cost to have PayPal take it out of your CC, and you earn points and get some CC chargeback protections. It's cheaper for PayPal if you use your PayPal balance, but given their propensity to freeze accounts with money in them I highly recommend you keep as little in there as possible.

      • Is that really a thing? They froze our company account for months when we had a fair bit of money in it and were so unhelpful - none of the staff could even really tell why it was frozen. Now I always take money out of paypal straight away. I didn't realise they did this to so many others. Good advice.

        • +2

It's happened a ridiculous amount of times to me and I've never had any chargeback issues or disputes. I know of others who have only purchased items and have also had their accounts frozen with an ask for driver's license and ID to unfreeze. I try and get money out of their as soon as possible and make sure to use my creditcard which can help with extra protection and points.

        • @cyssero:

Thanks heaps for the advice, I will take the advice!

  • My parents card is a Commonwealth bank issued AMEX platinum Awards card. How would I check for targeted offers that apply to this card?

  • I have to do two transaction or one $200 transaction will give $40 credit ?

  • Not in my Qantas Descovery account too, which i already have PayPal linked to and did lot purchase before….

  • I registered PayPal offer in 2 of my supplementary cards, I checked today and discovered PayPal offer was disappeared from the save section, I have not use the PayPal offer on my supplementary cards yet. Anyone has this issue?

    • +1

This seems to happen with the new system. The credits will still come through.

    • +1

Did you see a more button at the bottom? I had to click more to see all my offers as some are now 'hidden'.

      • Thanks Jimbo & marketingpolice. Yes, i have clicked the more button, and the offer is not there. I have not use the offer yet, the PayPal saved offer has disappeared.

  • Hey guys, is this $100 TOTAL on paypal over this time, or in one transaction (even from multiple sellers?)

I suspect I'm gonna hit $100 by the date, but most of my transactions are $6 one day, $14 the next, $1.50 the next and so on.

    • Sorry to bump this thread guys, but does anyone know? I've counted, I'm up to about $70 in Paypal spent in the last 10 days now, is it ok this way? Not one big paypal $100 at a shot right?

      • +3

ok as long as total gets to $100 (for $20 credit) or eventually $200 (for $40 credit)

        • Thanks heaps dude, no problem then.

  • why amex got so many benefits?! I am thinking about it now.

  • I check the Dan Murphy's website but I cannot see the WISH egift card? Only the Dan Murphy's gift card.
