  • Guangzhou and wuhan; or Guangzhou or wuhan? Must be the latter.

    • These are 2 stop flights so both airports

      • +3

        Sounds like a NIGHTMARE!!!!!

  • How many hours is that? 23?

    • Sydney to Rome with 2 stops could be anywhere from 27 hours upwards.

  • 1 hour connection from domestic to international on the brisbane flight. not going to happen!
by the way, how does your site work? it seems to use skyscanner results, sort by price, then display the cheapest round trips for dates. pretty cool!

    • Thanks tomkun01. Yep we partner with Skyscanner and search through millions of flight searches to scout out the best deals and cheapest dates to travel :)

    • Regarding the connection, China Southern would book you through and would be expecting you on the next plane - if they sell it as a trip then it would be happening daily.

      • They have the right to say too bad so sad if you don't make the flight, right?

        • No because they are selling all the flights on one ticket/booking. If you miss the flight because of a delayed flight they would try and wait expecting guests or put you on another flight. They would also give you some assistance with transiting in the airport.

@flightscout: i still don't see how a one hour connection is possible

        • +1

@tomkun01: China Southern air has a bit of a reputation for running late.

        • @Helenn: Flew Virgin last holidays. Absolute sheetshow. 8 hours of total delay and no compensation given. Part of it was operated by Singapore Airlines. Made a 1.5 connection at Changi by sprinting between gates. And this is a top airline.

        • @tomkun01: conversely one recent flight with CSA was also delayed by 6ish hrs and they gave us all $30 meal vouchers and further $30 cash in Guangzhou and put us up overnight as we'd missed our connection 😊 I would fly with them again

  • Great price - but two stops in China???

    • +3

It's about a $400 saving. Possibly not worth the hassle

  • +2

Not worth the hassle of 2 stops and tight connection.

    • Depends how many people are going I suppose

I've had 12 flights with China Southern this year, as much as everyone on OzB hates on them, they're a pretty good airline! No problems, always on time, service is good, only downside is no spirits on board (they still have beer) and less Western movies than SQ/EY/etc (though still a pretty good selection).

I'm actually typing this from Rome airport now (though flying EY, not CZ). Definitely a city worth seeing if you're unsure, so much nicer than I thought it would be here!

    • What is the food like on China Southern?

    • I agree, seats were pretty comfortable. Downside for me was no mobile phone and the entertainment system wasn't working on one of my flights and playing up on another. In future I would just bring a tablet. Food was variable, some good some ok.

    • There's nothing wrong with airline, it's the locals that's a worry! anyone tried to open the door mid-flight?:-)

I'm pretty sure China Southern is actually the biggest carrier in China and Asia. I find their economy service to be excellent and by far the best out of the big 3 mainland Chinese airlines.

That said, transit in Chinese airports is still more confusing than established transit ports such as Singapore and Hong Kong. Also, these flights via Guangzhou AND Wuhan may seem cheap but you'll need a Chinese visa to take the domestic flight between Guangzhou and Wuhan, which increases the cost considerably. Most journeys with only one stopover in China don't require visas (transit permit on arrival for Aussie passport holders) so it may be worth paying a little more to only transit in Guangzhou.

    • Thanks for all the great info :)
