Asian Rice Cooker That Is Not Too Heavy on Electricity for under $100?

Anyone have any suggestions on rice cookers?

Most important factors are:

  • Energy consumption.
  • Non-stick (of course)
  • Not too expensive (not over $150, ideally under $100)
  • Cooks Asian rice (East Asian and Indian).

How much rice do you make, that energy concern has become a major deciding factor in your purchase? Then sorry to say, maybe you should evaluate your lifestyle choices.

Energy is a concern on all appliances and is a good signifier of a quality component of the kitchen…

Lights are small things in my life, a kettle too. But if I buy ones that aren't conservative with energy, am I stupid or normal.

Energy efficiency is important and I agree that it is important to try and use efficient devices as much as possible. However with regards to devices that purely heat (such as the kettle you mentioned) they already are effectively 100% efficient i.e all the electrical energy you put into it gets converted to heat. If you get a kettle that consumes less power you are getting just that, a lower powered kettle. It will just take longer to the do same job and will consume the same, if not more (due to the extra timing resulting in more heat lost) energy.

I agree with the facts about a kettle. But this isn't a kettle.

Go Tiger or go home. Might have to look second hand to get one under $100 though it will last forever.

    • Agreed mate. Costco have a tiger for under $100

  • Energy consumption

    Are you asian?

Given most of the electricity will be turned to heat to cook the rice, energy usage would probably be similar. Only thing I can think of is a pressured rice cooker theoretically would use less electricity. I would love to get an Instant Pot which could do many things including rice, but it's not really available in Australia. Would need to get the UK version.

  • This is difficult; because the best ones are always sold out.

Co-incidentally… the best ones are also the cheapest:
