I have used this insurance during similar promotion that was not worth a cent
My notebook was not allowed to carry in cabin during US trip in April 2017 and damaged in luggage. They accepted my claim until I sent it to them. They denied because it was in cargo and claimed I didn't have to put in luggage despite well known US flights rules.
You should keep fighting this issue. Sounds winnable to me

I've had travel insurance claims denied. When I've persisted, they do the right thing.
I think maybe insurance companies (& my pet hate, telcos) have the attitude that they are set up to take money, but not give it back (without a fight)

Application to ombudsman may help but more letters, forms. I have previous experiences justice may cost more than what it worth. I already lost my time, got angry talking again again same story, I gave up.
