Play StarCraft 2 FREE This Weekend! [For Win & MAC!] {Approx 7GB}

760

Not sure if this is considered a "deal" - I guess this is up to the community to decide. Vote now! =)

I for one, have resisted buying the game (Starcraft 2) thus far and this seems like a good way to try before I buy… LEGALLY! [Update: for BOTH Windows & MAC!]

[Possibly IMPORTANT Note: Singapore is 3 HOURS behind SYDNEY Time]

No I'm not a rep, in-fact I used to work for the competitor of the distributor in Singapore… but I'm a GAMER so there.

StarCraft II Free Play Weekend FAQ
English

Q: How does the Free Play Weekend promotion work?
A: Eligible players will receive free access to both Single Player and Multiplayer modes of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty for a 72 hour period starting at 12:01 a.m. Singapore time on Friday, November 19th and ending at 11:59 p.m. Singapore time Sunday, November 21st.

Q: Who is eligible for the Free Play Weekend?
A: Players in Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand who have a Battle.net account but do not currently have a StarCraft II license attached to it.

Q: I already own a copy of StarCraft II. How can I benefit from the Free Play Weekend?
A: The Free Play weekend is intended for people who have not already purchased StarCraft II, similar to an open beta test for players to try the game out on a limited-time basis. If you have any friends who have not tried or are interested in trying StarCraft II, this is the perfect opportunity for them to do so.

Q: If I add time to my account before the Free Play Weekend am I still eligible to for the Free Play Weekend?
A: No. Anyone who has ever added time to their account prior to 12:01 a.m. Singapore time on November 19th will not be eligible for this promotion.

Q: I have played StarCraft II via a Guest Pass. Am I eligible to access the 3 Day Free Play promotion on the same Battle.net account?
A: No. Only Battle.net accounts without an existing StarCraft II license attached are eligible to participate.

Q: How do I download the game client?
A: Beginning on Monday November 15th you can download the client from the Free Play Weekend web page (http://sea.battle.net/en/sc2freeplay). This download link will be active throughout the 72 hour promotional period.

Q: If I download the client before the promotion begins, can I get access to the free promotional time early?
A: No. The access to the free time will be awarded to existing eligible Battle.net accounts at the beginning of the 72 hour promotional period.

Q: Will I be able to join the promotion after it begins?
A: Yes. Simply go to the Free Play Weekend web page (http://sea.battle.net/en/sc2freeplay) to create a new Battle.net account and to add a StarCraft II license and the promotional time to your account. Note that you will have access to both single and multiplayer modes only up until 11:59 p.m. Singapore time on Sunday November 21st.

Q: If I add time to my account during the free play weekend, when does it start counting down?
A: If you add time to your account once you are in the free play weekend, your time will not begin to deduct until the free play weekend time has expired.

Q: Will I be able to play StarCraft II on the free weekend in an internet game room or gaming café?
A: As long as the cafe has StarCraft II installed, you can log in with your own Battle.net account to enjoy the free-play weekend, provided you meet the eligibility rules above. Call and make sure your neighbourhood cafes install StarCraft II before November 19th!

Q: How do I keep playing StarCraft II after the promotion in over?
A: The StarCraft II license will remain attached to your Battle.net account after the free play time expires. To continue to play, simply purchase any StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty box or a time card at a retail location or a digital subscription through the Battle.net Account Management system.

Q: Will I retain my records from the free-play weekend if I decide to upgrade to a full retail version or purchase prepaid game cards?
A: Yes, your account will retain all your in-game records and progress from the free-play weekend, as well as any you gain from using prepaid game cards in the future. This includes portraits, achievements, win-loss records, and league rankings.

  • Guest pass accounts excluded. Oh well.

Just make a new account… how hard could it be?

  • lol so over SC2 already, i guess now Bnet needs more people for faster search time.

Are you serious? How long do you wind up waiting for a match? I usually have an opponent within 10 seconds or so.

Or are you playing team games?

I'm still enjoying the game, playing it most nights since launch :)

      • Yeah I play 2v2 and wait time is never more than a minute, usually < 30 seconds.
I still play on the SEA server, I wonder what player numbers are like compared to NA?

Me and my mate did briefly try some 2v2 on NA but didn't notice much difference, except skill level seems to be considerably lower for each division :o

Wait times are definitely a lot longer for the 4v4 and FFA games, but that's to be expected..those are pretty much just muck-around leagues anyway :P

    • Seems alright for SEA, but NA has many more players. If you hit them at their peak time, you can pretty much find a match within 5 seconds.

  • Thanks. This saves me from buying the game.

I never play multiplayer and with 3 days of game time, I should be able to finish the single player portion of the game.

BTW I found my download goes faster if you turn off p2p in the Blizzard downloader app.

You can download the game and finish the single player game at any time you want. You only have to buy the game to play multiplayer.

      • See, now I was wondering about this part…

A mate was wondering if he could borrow the game, but I wasn't sure if he'd be able to install and play it all on a 'guest' account.

      • Legally? How?

        • Yeah, I don't think he's promoting the right thing here..

Free weekend's a great idea though, the more players the better! Big download's a pain, but I might just give my disc to some mates (seeing as you don't really need it again after installing) and see if I can get them to play :)

        • so long as the owner signs into the game on their mates computer every 30 days, the guest will be able to play single player missions and single player custom games vs the AI.

    • I wasn't talking about anything illegal. Just install the game (borrow the DVD or download) and install starcraft 2. Then just get someone to login once and then you can easily finish the single player game (you can play the single player game for a month without buying it, or just get someone who owns the game to sign-in once every month and you can play as a guest forever in single player).

      • Why the negatives? Lots of hypocrits with double-standards on OzBargain. Quite a few of you jump at any opportunity to sneak around loopholes. (re: gelaskins, cadbury & 7/11 hacks, pricing errors, etc. and they got pluses through the roof!)

If anyone has a guest pass they could send me I would be grateful. Thanks

    • +1

Don't need a guest pass. Just go and sign up for an account. http://sea.battle.net/en/sc2freeplay
That should be all you need (in addition to the 7Gb download) to play for free this weekend!

      • -3

I know you don't need a guest pass for this weekend. But I wouldn't mind a guest pass to play earlier. So if anyone has a guest pass they don't need please send it to me. Thanks

  • If people are having problems with the registration, as when I tried "Australia" it did not load properly, click on "Singapore" first, the rest of the page should load and then change back to "Australia". [Remember to scroll down all the way for the T&C]

    =)

  • I never go multiplayer in RTS games, only interested in the campaign. If I download this do I have to finish the campaign within the 72 hour promotional period, or can I leave it for a week (after my last exam) and play it at leisure?

    • sorry for the exams… its free to play only Fri-Sun…this weekend…

  • +1

The client to download SC2 uses p2p technology so you have to upload to other people while downloading.

    • You can disable P2P though, in which case it won't upload anything (I think?)

  • Sorry just got answered

  • Deal!
