TheGoodGuys Sold Me Second Hand TV and Tried to Pass It off as New

Just unboxing my Hisense 55N7 after finally pulling the trigger for the $935 deal + $100 store credit.

Should have suspected something when they took forever to find it in the store.

Unboxing the stand was half assembled already. But the kicker that gave it away when I get the thing out of the box its got half a wall mount attached… well at least the top two brackets appear to be screwed in. With no trace of the other two.

I sent a worded email to their online team now as this is ridiculous and the store is now closed. Unfortunately I am going out of town tonight and wont be back for a few weeks. So double annoyed I'll have to wait to do anything about this.

Anyone else had a similar experience with the bad guys? How'd it work out?

The box didn't look previously opened?

With the plastic clips that hold the big top of the box you can put it back together without any difference in appearance. If you keep the plastics safe and beat you can repackage it perfectly. We used to do this at Retravision when we sold a floor model.

They gave you the wrong box. Just take it back for a replacement or a refund.

  • Haven't had that experience at tgg, but am trying to get the vouchers from an extended warranty, it's been taking months to sort it out :(.

Sounds like they gave you a returned box by mistake. Just take it back and explain it, but if you can't do that for a while, take a few photos now and email the store/corporate first.

  • Second hand would mean it was sold/returned and sold again, more like a display model.

  • Just FYI the 'top two brackets' you mention are probably just handles to help you unbox and manoeuvre the set… at least that's the case with the 65'' model I have. They are screwed into the upper VESA mount positions.

The half assembled foot bracket does sound suspect however!

  • Bit of a misleading titleā€¦ Should read "TGG accidentally sent me a returned / store model tv"

You've contacted the store that's all you can do. Ring them first thing Monday and ask what the procedure is

I doubt it 2nd hand, its probably a display model.

  • Are you saying the feet and the black rods that attach to the tv were already screwed in but not attached to the tv? I definately got a brand new tv (55n7 picked up today) and i think that is normal even though in the manual it tells you to attach them. Also as stated above those handholds come attached. Was there anything else that would make you think it was second hand? Did it have the plastic protection on the feet and the 3 stickers on the sides of the screen?

Btw super happy with mine. Great price for a good tv.

    • Here's how the feet came packaged: https://imgur.com/XtCklAj

Yeah, they were both assembled like that straight out of the box for me. They had like a plastic film around the silver part of the feet also to prevent scratches to the silver coating. Cant recall if one had green packaging and the other one had clear though. Might be hard to tell but are there any wear marks where the black rod connects to the tv and does the thread where it screw into the tv have wear marks? When you turned the tv for the first time did it go to a setup or just turn on?

        • It booted straight up

        • @lethological: When I first turned the tv on mine dispayed the hisense logo and then had to go through a setup (ie connect to the internet etc).

Just had a look through all the plastic that I stored in the box and it does look like one of the feet had green plastic covering the whole assembled foot and the other had clear plastic, so it is exactly like the picture you sent. Hope that helps.

        • Interesting that this is consistently strange. One of the packets was taped, the other stappled.

If not an attempt at repacking, this is a very strange standard that disagrees with the manual.

@lethological: Though i cant remember exactly how it was when i was unpackaging the tv, I just had a look then and my green packaging had a small staple still attached to it and the clear plastic had still had tape on it.
