  • link to DM site says $110 per bottle for me mate. I'm in QLD. Could this be a region only special?

      Brisbane shows $99.95

But I think I'll save up & drink it again in Japan so much cheaper🏯
Cost of 3.5 bottles often buys return flight plus a bottle of this whiskey at supermarket😀

      • Mate I bought a bottle of the 12 year old for 30AUD back in 2014 before they stopped, got it tucked away for a special occasion. Really is stupidly cheap over there.

        • I'm jealous.

        • you wont be able to find a 700ml now.

You can however buy the mini 50ml bottles for roughly $9~ each

  • comes up as $110 when you click link

  • $110 here too

Tested it again and tried 3000 postcode and the price dropped again to $99.95

  • Comes to $99.95 for me when set to ACT stores.

  • @tomeejaiy - I think its click and collect in CBD only. I am buying one from QV

  • I tried this whisky and it is nowhere close to Yamazaki 12 (or 18). You can get much better whisky for $99

The age specified is no longer released & bottles available are now very expensive.
I enjoy drinking this in Japan where it is a supermarket whiskey - good whiskey at great value.

  • NAS are inferior products.
At the very minimum, it should be the 12 y.o at this price.

Got the time machine that goes with that? Those days are well and truly over.

Got my brother to bring me back a bottle from Japan. Cost me $50AU.
Is an OK drop, not worth the $100+ price tag here in Aus though imo.

  • was going to say, let the 'its so much cheaper in Japan' comments begin. Its funny noone gets on the Scottish Whisky threads and says how cheap it is in Scotland and not worth that much here or beer threads talking about having it in Belgium last week for next to nothing but as soon as a Japanese Whisky thread pops up!

      You are a bit late😉

There are good reasons for the Cheaper in Japan comments…
It's all about the low tax rates on all alcohol there compared with Oz, not necessarily about the Japanese alcohol itself. (But the whiskey is acknowledged as great. Has led to age labeled bottles being discontinued due to high demand.)

Plus it's much cheaper to fly to Japan (from $199 or $238 return a while back - just 2+ of these bottles) than Scotland for a drink. So some of us do that regularly enough to appreciate the price difference. And many who appreciate this drink like myself, may have first drunk it in Japan. It's too expensive for me to drink here, so always look.forward to drinking it in Japan.

I guess you haven't been to Japan to understand this😭

noone … says how cheap it is in Scotland… There is a reason for that!
Found Whisky was a bit too dear for me in Scotland as taxes are high unless you are bringing it home duty free. And they have just raised the tax rate on alcohol (today's news)!

Japan has relatively low taxes, making alcohol so cheap compared to Oz - even for the Scottish & other drops in supermarkets. Duty free in Japan is usually dearer than supermarkets! Compare that with here.

But in France the beer was cheaper than bottled water, & drinkable local whisky was us$2 for 700ml in Myanmar in 2012… For some reason my memory of beer drinking in Belgium is a bit hazy😉

      • Actually have been to Japan, also to Scotland where the whisky was cheaper than here (of course). Yes we have our taxes but no need to bang on when a deal comes up that its not great because of it. When you see a deal come up and can guess the flood of comments you know those comments are played. Bit like the 'what coke to mix with this' comments.

Deals for flights to Japan are regularly 500-700 return on here which is an expensive bottle of whisky.

        • Try Jetstar deals on OzBargain like those I mentioned. I've never spent over $400 return in the last 10 years of trips. Flew in April-May around $300 return from deal here. But you're in Canberra which always makes it more expensive.

which is an expensive bottle of whisky.
No one goes to Japan just for 1 bottle of whiskey! Apart from the wonderful country, distillery tours, food, people, interesting sights & activities - there's plenty of space to bring a few bottles back…

Bought this bottle in a small farming/ fishing village (without a supermarket that might keep price low) for around $40 in May.

… a huge price disparity & why people discuss it in Japanese alcohol deals. Many know the price we pay in Japanese shops. Never saw whisky in Scottish shops around 1/3 price of regular price here.

That's why comments are predictable -
because it's surprisingly true. Our tax on alcohol is very high.

I like to learn about others experiences in Japan. Ozbargainers in these deals have taught me about Japanese Whiskey (favourite drop & bars, how & where to buy, distillery tours).

You don't have to read the comments - you've already predicted them😉

And prices in Scotland for alcohol sold there are rising… due to new tax increses allowed yesterday.
The UK Supreme Court has ruled that Scotland can set a minimum price for alcohol, rejecting a challenge by the Scotch Whisky Association.

Agh! Don't mention Coke in a whiskey deal. It's so predictable (& wrong in my opinion)😉

  • Other good drops around this price are:

The Balvenie 12y.o. doublewood at ~$85
The Macallan 12y.o. fine oak at ~$105

  • Was at the distillery a couple months ago. For those saying it’s cheaper in japan, they are right. If you can find it. I scoured shops and scored one bottle of hibiki 17 but not really much else available unless you spring thousands for the 30 year olds
