Auspost Motorcycle Posties Won't Deliver Parcel to Second Floor of Office Building

So I buy lots of crap (thanks Ozbargain!) and get them delivered to work which is in an office building with no on street parking.

Every now and then instead of getting the parcel delivered straight to the door, I get a collection card telling me to pick up the item from the local post office which is about 15-20min walk away.

After the 5th time this happened in the last 6 months I got irritated and wrote a complaint to Auspost and this is their response:

Thank you for your patience while I corresponded with your local delivery centre regarding your delivery issues.

In this instance, the driver states that because the address on the parcel is on the first floor (it's actually the 2nd floor), and he was unable to find an >intercom or doorbell for the business, he has transferred the article to your local post office.

Please be aware that motorcycle posties are unable to leave their bike for any reason due to the potential security risk of leaving their bike unattended. If there is an intercom the postie can use to notify someone he is at the address, please let me know so I can pass that feedback along. However, the Delivery Centre have advised that delivery to the door of the business will not be possible by motorcycle posties.

I hope this information clarifies the matter and has been of some assistance to you. If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to let me know.

Kind regards,

Just to be clear, our mailbox is inside the building and the elevator to get to our office floor is diagonally across from the mailbox, so in order to drop the collection card, he would have had to enter the building in the first place. The time it took him to actually write up a collection card is probably the same as taking the elevator to the 2nd floor and dropping it at the office. But I have a feeling if I reply with this, I'm going to get the same response back about how they cannot leave their motorcycles.

So basically all I can hope for when getting package is that I don't get a motorcycle postie? Why would they be using a motorcycle postie in the first place to deliver parcels?

if I am buying stuff for a few cents I also expect it to be delivered to my door

    get a bigger mailbox

they won't deliver anything by lift

to save space most of the time the parcel stays in the post office, I have only once had a parcel delivered to my door about 10 years ago. I think they always come up with an excuse why they can't deliver the parcel.

Just go for a walk, its nice outside.
You could probably use the exercise anyway.

      Nice try, postie.

Postal lockers are convenient for this reason. They're popping up everywhere these days. Particularly supermarkets

So you want to pick a fight with an actual bikie?

    That's such bullshit.

It's their ********* job to deliver stuff. How they're delivering it is their problem.

but the postie should not need to go up in a lift to deliver a parcel, what next have a map to nix106's office and desk, because that probably wouldn't take any longer than writing out the parcel collection card.

  • Just get a parcel locker and collect your stuff after work, if you don't like walking (I can understand not wanting to use your whole lunch break walking to the post office). Do you really need to play with your gadgets in business hours?

Imagine how much longer it would take them to do their job if they frequently had to enter buildings, wait for elevators, find the right drop-off points (they don't know the mailbox is immediately outside the lift).
Plus leaving shitloads of sensitive mail unattended (and out of sight) shouldn't ever happen.
It's unfortunate, but are others in the office having the same issue? Maybe y'all can stick a cheapo doorbell somewhere downstairs with the office name + deliveries?
Seems like there's a few possible solutions and getting AusPost to change is the hardest one, gl!

Posties are only required to deliver to the front of the property. Some might go beyond that but don't count on it.

  • You mentioned office in your post, you could try getting it sent to your house and use the "authority to leave" option, they usually send an sms notification when it's scanned at the mail center in the morning. They'll try to hide it and take a pic so you know where at the place

  • Yeah posties usually try not to leave their bikes unattended. Well imagine a scenario where they leave their bikes unattended and deliver parcels to different floors, your parcel and many other parcels would be left unattended, and possibly be stolen by a passer by, which has happened numerous times.

The postie probably went into the office building while keeping an eye on his bike, hoping no one will snatch anything from his bike.

But yeah parcel lockers is probably the best way to go these days. Safe and secure.

  • The title of this thread reminds me of the scene from Terminator 2 where the T1000 rides his bike thru Cyberdyne build and then takes the helicopter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5n3p97-tuQ
