Just an observation (and thanks for the post OP):
In July this year it was spend $75 get $50 back and the year before at around October 2016 it was spend $250 get $50 back. Benefits this time seem to have dropped down to 20% as opposed to 25% and 33%.
Not sure what target audience HR Block are trying to hit with this offer at this time of the year apart from really late tax return people who have multiple returns to do (admittedly me in 2016 with 7 years worth ~$850).
My tax return this year was $184 to process (with shares and some other tweaks) and so it will need to be a really nasty return to hit the $200 mark.
Don't get me wrong. I really love these deals but I wonder how many people actually take them up on the offer especially as the previous one was spend $75 get $25 back.

    Too little, too late!

    • Iv used this promo 2 years in a row but didnt this year because it JUST CAME OUT NOW!!

Exactly. This should have been out before October 31 if they truly wanted to reward us customers with a useful offer. How many folks will spend over 200 now (except those filing taxes after the deadline)? Iā€™m rather teed off :-/

      • They had the spend $75 get $25 back Amex promotion in July 2017. I got it put across two cards to save $50 and I can still claim the full $184 in next years deductions. šŸ˜„

    Please DON'T DO IT people!!!
It'll cost you a lot more than that in the end with the deductions that you've (they've) missed.

    • I've generally been ok with them. Managed to get about $22k of deductions (for mainly car expenses) this year and I do not think they missed anything so far.

      • Well our FBT went from over $8k with them, to just over $800 with our accountant.
That's just the tip of the iceberg. Many grey areas our accountants are happy to claim on, can provide previous examples and/or have set responses if the ATO should question them. They also let us know the things we should let go that set off flags with the ATO.
Yeah it costs us more… but the returns!!!
They even went back over a couple of previous years with 'that other mob' to gain us some tax credits. (FBT being one of them!!!)
