I'm leaving for Japan soon and currently have a Citibank Plus Transaction account with a debit card for use in Japan. I've loaded my savings account with funds, however I was wondering if this was what other people did when they visited Japan. Is it as simple as selecting "savings" account at the 7/11/ post office ATMs in Japan? Any tips that you can offer? I'm carrying a travel card just in case.

Not sure why someone downvoted you… this is correct. Most ATMs support the Visa and Mastercard networks and therefore you should press credit when withdrawing from a Citibank Visa/Mastercard Debit card overseas as it is more likely to work full stop. Pressing Savings will still work sometimes too with the Maestro or Cirrus network but I'd use that as my second option.

the machines have language options. 7/11's are your best bet as they are so numerous.
that is all you need.
You can also use the SMBC Bank ATMs in Japan fee free
Just use the 7/11 atms, i did but just careful how much you withdraw, i accidentally withdrew 40k yen thinking i was withdrawing like 10kyen lol
Yes you can withdraw from those ATMs. They are in english. Credit card machines are plentiful, but a lot of places have "Pay wave/pass" for Suica cards. So load the suica cards up for easy spending, mostly at convenience stores.
Just be aware that you might have a daily withdrawl limit on your card. I was using 7/11 ATMs at first and it wasn't working and then I realised I had a $1000 limit and was trying to take out $1500.
But as other people have posted press credit. 7/12 is literally everywhere so you won't have a problem finding one.
You can contact Citibank and increase the daily limit up to AUD$3000.
I was under the impression that you can only withdraw from the Citibank ATMs? I didn't know you can even withdraw from 7/11.
Was there last month. Withdrew money from 7/11 ATM's with my Citibank and even a random one I came across in a shopping centre. Just select Credit and it should almost always work.
No withdrawal fees were charged.7-11 is best because its free and everywhere, post bank also works but they charge a fee. press credit
cash society, so make sure you always have something on you. credit cards work in as many places as they dont.I used it anywhere and everywhere. Some of the old post offices had really old ATMs and it wouldn't work in there though.. But its not hard to find an alternative.
Some other extra tips:
Inform Citibank of your travel plan. Someone mentioned their card was blocked because Citibank thought its been compromised overseas.
If you need more funds in your Citibank account, remember that it may take 1-2 business days to transfer from another non Citibank bank account. As a safety, just load up a bit more than you budgeted in your account, you never know when you might need the extra cash.
Always press "credit" when using your card overseas.
