LCD TV Antenna Options??

Hey guys,

So I bought a 32" LCD aldi tv. What's my best antenna option without actually using a normal wall antenna?
I know there's a few tech savvy guys on here, you're help would be great. I'm just gathering whether I need to get a connection in the bedroom where the tv will be stationed or if there are alternate options?

I know there's rabbit ears, but from my experience they are crap and u won't get all the free to air channels or will you?

I used to have an active amplified set of bunny lugs, bought from Tandy (Realistic Brand) when I was a tenant with a stingy landlord! They were actually quite good for analogue and even better for DTV when combined with my old Strong SD STB! That was kinda old (8-10yr) tech too, surely there's newer, better versions now!

That said, there's really no substitute for a decent rooftop antenna, preferably with a good masthead amp; if at all feasible I'd go for installing a splitter in your existing setup & running a cable to your new TV! I don't think TV antenna installers have learned the overcharging trick from the other trades yet either, a family member recently got a new antenna + cable to outlet installed for well under $300 IIRC, so definitely grab a few quotes before you have a got at it yourself! ;)

  • Cheers Stew! Thanks for taking the time to write this!

Depends where you live… unamplified Bunny ears should work fine for a Metro area…
Hell, I recently rigged up an "antenna" for my Girlfriend's best mate in North Adelaide by rolling up some alfoil, insulating the inside of the antenna cable with a bit of cardboard from a 6-pack of beer and jamming the foil over the centre pin.
We picked up all channels with decent signal levels!
And I earned some serious Brownie points for MacGyver-ness… :-)

    • lmao! Do bunny ears pick up all the free to air channels? 7mate 1HD etc?

  • I bought this digital antenna from onlyonline,

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130451…

it was around $8 cheaper delivered than getting it is from a dick smith store. It skipped a bit on the 7 channels the first time i used it, but it picks up all the channels and works fine, the only drawback to me is it takes up another powerpoint.

If you go to the governtment digital tv website, there are suggestions and stuff for your particular situation and you can check whether you should be getting a strong signal or if your in a blackspot etc.

    • Cheers for the info…not sure if i wanna punt on the bunny ears, might end up regretting it!

I'm using bunny ear antennas for my Win 7 desktop. It picks up 7mate, SBSHD, ONEHD, etc fine.

Only cost me $5.50 from the local chinese reject shop.

  • I'm in North-west Sydney and I can't get ANY channels even with amplified bunny ears. Only get "fair" performance with a external antenna on a massive high post with 2 sets of guy-wires. It ALL depends on where you live.

So buy from somewhere which has a reliable and easy return policy.

  • Bought this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JZ62LJW/ref=oh_aui_deta…, works well with my TV, able to pick every channels.
