USA to Oz Container Shipping and Logistics

Hi, Looking at getting some car parts from the USA ie: Engines, gearboxes, Diffs etc. Some will be new, some second hand.

What I am wondering is, If its possible to buy most bits and pieces while I'm here in Oz of ebay, craigslist, other forums etc and have them shipped to a central location in Long Beach CA, for storage and I would then fly over (more than likely) and get a Shipping container delivered and pack it and get it shipped back. Is this possible? anyone know of any storage companies around Long Beach that will receive goods and store them for you? or even pack a container for you when all the items are acquired? saves me flying over.

or the other option is I fly over, rent a truck and drive around picking up all the bits and pieces and going back to a storage location and packing the container myself.

Any ideas, experience etc appreciated.

Thanks.

  • I don't have any experience with shipping containers from the US to Australia, but have you looked at buying parts from RockAuto?

    First result from Google…

Honestly I'd be getting onto some USA freight company's and just asking them. They will know who to talk to about your question.

  • To do what you are talking about, you really need to fly out to LA and make it happen your self.
I pressume you are wanting to resell these components?
Factoring in all your costs do the numbers stack up?

    • +1

Add to that you need someone here to do the customs brokerage etc… so that adds up as you will pay brokerage, gst and customs duties
PS: Engines are really heavy, so not a 1 person job to move, plus you would need to pack it securely and most brand new engines are shipped in a wooden crate

  • The gear is not for resale.

I rang a place in Australia and they said the container is delivered to a location in the US by the shipping company and you have 3 days to load it, then they pick it up.

    • Awesome, sounds like you have it all figured out then.
