Xiaomi Huami Amazfit Bip Smartwatch (Chinese Version) USD $49.99 / AUD $66 from GearBest

210
AMTCH

More Xiaomi posts! GearBest has pushed out a coupon AMTCH that reduced their new Huami Amazfit Bip to USD $49.99 (~AUD $66). Note that it's the Chinese version, however

  • Most reviews on YouTube shows UI are icons and graphics
  • It's possible to flash an English ROM
  • English version is yet to be released (and at a higher price)

It uses reflective display which boasts Mi Band 2-like battery life (i.e. a few weeks without recharge). If you are looking for something that is more featureful, also checkout Xiaomi Huami Amazfit Pace which has reduced to USD $78.99 from yesterday's deal. Amazfit Pace runs a re-skinned Android Watch making it possible to side-load apps, but at much reduced battery life. However Amazfit Blip (the one here) is pretty much a sports / fitness tracking watch only.

If you need a sport watch that's well supported, buy Garmin. If you are cheap and don't mind living dangerously, there's always Xiaomi :)

      living dangerously

Watch out guys, there's a danger of getting superior products at 20% of the competition's price!

    • Could you elabora on us living dangerously?

      • Could you elabora on us living dangerously?

Could you elaborate on what elabora means? ;)

        • +3

Elabora is the present indicative form of elaborar.

someone should make smart watch that really smart and not geared for health and fitness.
i dont care about my heart rate, or getting my sleep, step, water intake, sitting duration, calories tracked.

i want smart watch that smart, high tech and last long.

    • Unless you want to look smart, then there's Citizen Eco-Drive

      • +1

        dont forget SKMEI 9117!

I want Scotty to release an Ozbargain smartwatch that tracks bargains and has a Talk With a Mod button.

I would call it the Ozbit.

      • +1

Maybe something like this that connects to scotty?

        • +1

Yes, that would be awesome for Star Trek cosplay with Scotty.

    • +2

So you want a watch with meaningless things like "smarts" and "high tech".

      • ok lets call mine : geniuswatch

  • Amazfit Pace runs a re-skinned Android Watch making it possible to side-load apps, but at much reduced battery life

Does the Amazfit Pace run on android wear 2.0?

    • +1

      Nope; Android Lollipop 5.0.

And if 7-9 days "Always on" is what they call reduced battery life? I'd love to know what they expect from a smartwatch! (and PLEASE have them make it! lol)

  • I have the Amazfit, which is BRILLIANT.
However before we got an "English Version" was a little… umm… shit.

How are these things, considering so far there's ONLY a 'Chinese version'?

    • I really wish it had more sharp angles.

It looks far too much like an Apple watch; so I'd be nearly embarrassed to wear it out in public in case someone thought it was one…..

      • Slavishly copying Apple is kinda Xiaomi's thing … I like it, you get the benefit of Apple design in a device that costs 10% of the Apple product.

Also no one gives a shit about your watch. If it barely breaks their consciousness it's gone forever 2 seconds later.

        • First; I give a shit about my Watch, so, incorrect.
I'd assume there are other people like me, that like watches, also.
          You don't?

So I think it's a fairly inane comment to suggest no one gives a shit about peoples watches.
I for one, don't base a shallow first impression (when they're required; such as a business meeting) on clothes; I base it on accessories.

To me, There is no benefit of "Apple Design".
In my humble opinion; it's all a sign to me that you had too much poorly invested money, so you had to burn some.
Also, that you would rather look at the symmetrical ball of clay, and claim they invented a new form of art by not trying something new, rather than appreciate the artist who molds it into something unique.

But that's an opinion, and it sounds like yours differs; which you're welcome to.

    • What exactly are the differences between the Chinese and English versions? I'm assuming that the English is like the Global version?

    • Been sitting on "PreOrder" for ages.. I wanted to get one for my Son who consistently forgets to charge things.. The long battery life helps.

  • Noooo…Stop it.
This is so an apple watch!!

    • Except it will work with everything, and not just iphones!

  • Upvoted for being a awesome copycat

  • Xiaomi are masters or breaking down existing technology and making it Applesque. I'm still waiting on the Xiaomi toilet seat!

    • +2

A bit pricey at USD $379.05, but I guess they actually have to pay someone to design it rather than copying Apple's product.

      • +1

Wouldn't risk buying that, probably spies on you while you're taking a dump.

        • But, do I REALLY care if someone wants to enjoy that for some reason?
          I'm genuinely not sure.

        • @MasterScythe:

Yeh. I would hate someone spying on me. But they helped snap a photo of the big spider in my bowl

        • @lovepub:

You also have a snake, I think it's a brown snake.

  • This watch is now in English, mine updated this morning and it now has downloadable watchfaces and the language changed to English

    • Just to clarify, you have the "chinese version" which has the ability to display the menus in english (aswell as chinese) ? Or are you saying the "international version" is now out ?

      • +2

Mine is the Chinese version but after updating to the latest mifit app this morning the firmware on the watch was updated and now is in English.

        • Thanks. Are you able to read the sms messages or is it notifications only ?

  • So if i want to be able to install the Evernote app for Android Wear, I can do this with the Amazfit? But i need to hack it…?

    • Not possible with Amazfit Bip as it's not running Android Wear. Not sure about the more expensive Amazfit Pace — it might be possible but fiddly to sideload an app.

      • Thanks Scotty, still looking for a good replacement for my pebble that supports Evernote and has great battery life

        • heard about ticwatch? or misfit vapor?

        • @dragonindespair: Ticwatch is having some AMAZING sales recently, I think it was at geekbuying.

        • @MasterScythe: yeah but no one received ticwatch s or e yet, and ticwatch 2 isn't android wear.

        • @dragonindespair: Android Wear is a great example of things I don't like in technology.
Huge advancements in features, by sacrificing what I personally consider essentials.

I've always worn my watch as an alarm to wake up. If it can't make a working week in battery life, it's useless as a watch for me.

Pebble will always be king, but fitbit killed it.

        • @MasterScythe: me too but I realise the fact is human unable to invent new battery technology for mor0e than a decade. Still lithium.

        • @dragonindespair: Just wait until Sodium-ion batteries are finished in a few months.

we DO finally have an alternative. And it's better!

        • @dragonindespair:
I should have elaborated….are these both decent but cheapish android wear watches? What would be considered the best Android watch under $200..? Is no nfc a real killer for the Tic models coming out. Also, i should note that i use an iphone - is this going to be an issue or is android wear completely independent to the phone these days?

        • @cjb: forget android if you use Apple they are closed systems no one knows if one day Apple decide not to support Google.

  • Tempted to get this (or the pricier amazfit). Hows the app that's used on phone with this watch? (using a Xiaomi phone as a backup coincidentally)

    • App's fine. It asks for a LOT of permissions (notably, all of them) but I went back and denied all but SMS and Phone, and it works flawlessly still :)

      • As someone else posted above, can you confirm if the latest firmware update now allows for english menus ? and therefore I'm not forced to buy the pricier "international version" ?

        • Also very interested in this!

  • Any Xiaomi smartwatch that can measure fat percentage?

    • Pork fat or human fat?

    • Nothing can do that accurately without a nice high resistance sensitive electricity plate for you to touch at 2 locations (such as, scales).

Even the ones you hold in the gym that don't account for things like how hydrated a person is, or how long their arms are, are somewhat inaccurate.

Every doctor and trainer I've been too, still uses the 'pinch' method. lame, but outside of an actual body mapping, apparently it's the most reliable.
