What's The Go with No Fingerprint Readers on iPhones?

Hi guys,

I've seen this a number of times, where an iPhone (or any smart phone on ebay), is listed as AU stock, and the ad looks legitimate, with good reviews,BUT THERE's NO FINGERPRINT SENSOR?

What does that even mean?! How is it possible and legit AU Stock?

Eg

Thoughts?

Well for one thing it isn't Aus stock because it has an American charger in the picture

Another thing is that if it was never used it would have a finger print scanner.

No finger print scanner means it was repaired cheaply and poorly with 3rd party parts and therefore touch id no longer functions.

Don't do it. But maybe report the listing for misleading information.

Means that the touch ID button was probably shattered or they bought defective stock cheap and replaced the button.
The touch ID sensor and the motherboard have paired encryption keys, so if you break one you also have to replace the other if you want touch ID to work.

  • Most likely fake iphone running Android. Fake iPhone is like a fake orgasm, only you know it is fake.

  • Thankyou guys

  • Yep as already mentioned above it's a screen swap. I've repaired a fair few screens and you can swap the sensor over to the new screen but often it is shattered or too damaged to do so.

  • Be careful of refurbs, you're better off with a used one.

The TouchID/finger doesn't work on refurbs. There's a pretty big international market for people to steal normal working iPhones and then refurbish them with unofficial parts, usually shipping the devices to China or Malaysia/Local Dodgey Phone Repair Stores from western countries.

There's a way you can check the device's ID and see on Apple's system if it had a previous owner, or was reported stolen. But Apple took a stupid decision to remove this official check from its website, meaning they've essentially gone backwards on their promise to genuine buyers for making their devices thief-resistant, and instead have given the phone thieves the upper hand, willingly, aided them.

What they do is replace the TouchID module and reflash the chip so that it doesn't get locked out of iTunes. Its an inexpensive third-party module, not to mention third-party housing (if scratched), screen (if broken), batteries (if depleted), and clone-boxes that can be shrink-wrapped to mimic a factory sealed Brand New unit. So they essentially buy a $1,000 stolen iPhone for $150… then throw another $50 of parts… and another $50 of labour/advertising for a total cost of ~$250. And they typically sell them for around $800, which is a cool $600 profit. When you multiply that on a higher scale, say 100 refurbs a month, a crooked Phone Seller can make a cool $50,000 profit monthly. Don't ask how I know.

  • I tried buying one of of these where eBay selected a few sellers to do 20% off. I thought ebay only selected reliable sellers. Seller sent me a stagnant tracking number. Status showed items was forever at the 'sellers warehouse'

After 60 days, of the seller telling me to wait 'a little longer' I called Paypal, and they returned the money to me

If I were you. Just stay away from sellers like these.

Anyone can sell on eBay. Feedback is the best way to tell, if they are shit or not. Sorry to hear you got messed around. Sometimes its hit and miss

      • It was a 20% eBay sale. And the code only worked for selected sellers. I thought those sellers were reliable. They had 98+ % positive feedback too.

Loophole is, they sellers lots of $1 items and get good feedback. And then they scam ppl on high end items like iPhones.

Make sure you search specific item feedback. Ctrl + F iPhone
