A fairly unique one here for the lycra wearing (bike riding variety) ozbargainers. Been keeping an eye on these for 3-4 months and this is the lowest ive seen. Original list price seems to be $1099, although ive seen them higher. More expensive than other brands but reviews are excellent.

First review on the Wiggle site:
"Broken after two months - no data being transmitted. Video of problem taken and sent to Tacx who admitted the unit was broken. They won't provide any warranty support directly, only via your dealer so choose a dealer carefully! Pretty poor of a $1000 unit to fail after two months leaving me to go back my dumb trainer which although dumb is reliable!"
Cons:
Bulky, Expensive, Low Quality, Wears Out Easily"This person should know their rights. Tacx is not allowed to refuse a customer who wishes to deal directly with them
I read a ton of reviews before parting with my money, and nothing obvious. Wiggle is great with warranty/returns in my limited experience.
The wahoo model is around $200-300 cheaper than this, but didnt appear to have all the functionality or as easy for connectivity.
If you use the referee link (not sure how that works as it was added after i posted), looks like you can get a further $18 off it.
The problem with these is that you need to know the serial number before buying.
Wiggle and CRC are great for warranty issues but these still have lots of issues.Huh? Why would you need the serial number (unless you have a list of bad batches.. Unlikely)
early models are all duds
Isn't it this is the one that fails on the belt drive?
From what I've read, the belt drive problems were limited to an early production run.
I own one of these, and love it. Got me through a very cold Canberra winter. Was doing about 7 hours / week on it in the leadup to Around The Bay and it never missed a beat.
It does have a minimum operating temperature though - I think something like 4 degrees C. My training room is effectively outside, and I train early in the morning. So on sub-zero nights the Flux would need 10 minutes pedaling just to come up to temperature and start operating correctly. Generally I'd just bring it inside overnight instead.
…and I should add that when I contacted Tacx support regarding the temperature issue, they were super helpful and responsive.
I would probably go with the Wahoo KICKR 2 $1299 especially when paying that kind of money
Vendor in title please.
I have this trainer and fortunately it has been problem free (touch wood). Remember when looking at the forums and reviews that most people who comment are the ones who have had problems. Not as many people comment to say that they haven't had a problem.
I was using a manual trainer so moving to this smart trainer was amazing. It has really helped keep up the activity in the colder months.
What's a good basic trainer to get?
If you want a smart trainer to make use of online training programs like Zwift you need a trainer that works with the FE-C protocol. Hard to single a couple out but sites like DC Rainmaker https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2017/10/annual-trainer-recommend… and In the know cycling https://intheknowcycling.com/ normally do an annual review of trainers.
Cant comment on this particular model, I have a Wahoo Kickr 2 and using a smart trainer on zwift has made indoor training fun. My outdoor cycling has improved as well, the structured training drills in zwift have helped me raise my FTP by about 10-15% in a month and a half!
I did a lot of research before purchasing a trainer. In the end, for my needs, it came down to the Kickr and Tacx Neo. I bought the Neo and it is fantastic. I have have a few friends with the Kickr and it is equally awesome.
I briefly considered the Flux, but after watching Shane Miller's youtube review, I decided it wasn't worth the risk, even though Tacx seem to have addressed a lot of the problems they had with the early models. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjvyH3TEDNo
There are so many trainer options, you really need to work out your budget and what you want from a trainer. Then match that with the right product.
It's on sale at Chainreactioncycles too. $915.
Local Aus prices are $999. Do they fail? Is it worth $98 for local warranty?
