Mobile Phone Dilemma

Good afternoon all,
Totally green when it comes to mobile phones. Trying to educate myself on all the terminology & what is useful and just useless. So would appreciate your help on identifying what the downsides are of buying this phone for use in oz?

I also checked map. http://maps.mobileworldlive.com/

Also. apart from price whats the differences between the different international warehouses and the Global version listed below.(Gearbest site)

Xiaomi Redmi 4X 4G Smartphone HK WAREHOUSE INTERNATIONAL VERSION 4GB RAM 64GB RO BLACK 209274324 MIUI 8 Snapdragon 435 4100mAh Battery AU$245.53

Xiaomi Redmi 4X 4G Smartphone INTERNATIONAL VERSION 4GB RAM 64GB ROM BLACK 209274318 MIUI 8 Snapdragon 435 4100mAh Battery . AU$237.58

Redmi 4X 4G Smartphone GLOBAL VERSION 3GB RAM 32GB ROM BLACK 209274317
MIUI 8 Snapdragon 435 4100mAh Battery Aus $217.04

Couldn't work out from the comment this morning if it was the Xiaomi 4X or the note that is the better phone.

Its all sooo confusing. I just need to buy a basic 2 sim slots + micro sd storage as a Xmas gift. Preferably 4.5 to 5 inch screen. Budget $350. Going for a cheap phone as I can no longer justify big$ for poor quality(dead phones & cracked screens). Galaxy Note 2 was my last quality built phone-seems to have been downhill from there. Don't want to return to numeric keyboard though.

Also, I have a list of Aus. frequencies but do I really need all of those? Would 1800 and 2100 MHz suffice?
3g
850MHz Telstra & Vodaphone
900MHz V & Optus
2100MHz T & V & O
4g
700MHz T & O
850MHz V
900MHz T
1800MHz T & O & V
2100MHz T & O
2300MHz O
2600MHz T & Opt

Thanks in advance for your help

I have addressed common 4G LTE band questions in this wiki
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/buying_a_phone_that_works_…

like what bands you need and what telcos use which bands

as to the differences in the ones you listed

Xiaomi Redmi 4X 4G Smartphone HK WAREHOUSE INTERNATIONAL VERSION = This one ships from the Hong Kong warehouse. It's the international version of the phone which means it has Google Play store and english language by default. The updates the phone receives are also in english.

Xiaomi Redmi 4X 4G Smartphone INTERNATIONAL VERSION = It's the same phone but it will ship from a different warehouse and it may take a lot longer for it to arrive.

Redmi 4X 4G Smartphone GLOBAL VERSION 3GB == this one is DISCONTINUED and you can't buy it anymore. This version is older and I think it omits the fingerprint scanner.

All of the Redmi phones work in australia. You will be missing out on Band 28 support, but you have the most important ones covered:

    B1, B5, B3, B7, B8.

If you really want B28 support, you should buy a Motorola G series. Maybe even a nokia, but they're not very cheap.

  • Thanks for that-I recall glancing at the wiki when you posted but then forgot about it. Makes sense. I guess it pays to check all warehouses for pricing- thanks for clarifying. All very helpful.

  • As far as I'm aware none of these phones have Dual sim PLUS micro SD.. The second sim slot usually holds the SD card so you can either have dual sim OR single sim + Micro SD.
