Worth Getting a Replacement Tempered Glass? - Galaxy S8

Recently there has been new Tempered Glass screen protectors released for Galaxy S8, S8+ and Note 8 which have Full Adhesive at the back. 99% of the ones available have glue on the sides only.

I have seen many videos of these being applied flawlessly so i decided to order one off eBay because i couldn't stand the touch problems on the normal ones.

I applied the tempered glass with the installation tray and there are bubbles on both sides of the screen which are very persistent. I can push them out, but they just come back seconds later 1 cm into the screen. It's along both long edges. I did try reapplying it but with no luck.

My question now is, should i get a replacement from the seller as this is faulty or should I just ask for a refund?

    ask the seller.

That's a pretty big leap to assume it is faulty just because of a few air bubbles which are almost always caused by improper application. By all means, if you are certain that there is absolutely nothing underneath sticking to the underside that will promote air pockets, and that you haven't got it misaligned such that air could seep in, then contact them. Otherwise, I imagine they will tell you something along the lines of 'tough luck'.

    • It's not a few, both sides of the tempered glass is just air. Not sure if you are aware but the galaxy s8 has a curved display, hence why all tempered glasses for it only have glue on the edges.

Now I am sure there was nothing inbetween the screen and glass because i could push the bubbles out but they would just reappear slowly. It was definitely installed properly using the installation tray (i can't move it around). I have come to the conclusion that the tempered glass was not curved exactly the the s8 which is generally a pretty common problem

  • I think you didn't applied properly. Also tempered glass will break after 1-2 drops.I prefer normal plastic one now.

Also tempered glass will break after 1-2 drops

I thought that's the point of tempered glass, so that the screen protector breaks instead of your phones screen..
Kind of like complaining the helmet broke after falling down the stairs head first.

      • I don't think that glass can take any impact.

    • I'm 100% sure it is applied correctly. Attached a photo for you. The reason those bubbles appear on the side is due to the curvature of the tempered glass not matching the curvature of the phone.

      • Have you tried applying some heat via a hair dryer or heat gun onto the screen protector, and then trying to push out the air bubbles? Sometimes this melts the adhesive enough to allow you to get a proper bond.

        • Yes i did try that too at the end after reapplying it, no luck though

  • tempered glass looks great but breaks easy, unless you get it at a similar price as the old style plastic, I would never pay a premium.

  • Wait what. I think you've been had - no screen protector I've ever gotten has adhesive anywhere: the design and physics mean that adhesives aren't needed. How much did you pay for this? I looked at the photo and it looks like a design flaw - you can get an exchange but I'd assume the new one would have the exact same problem.

    • They have just started coming into the market with thicknesses of 0.15mm,0.2mm and 0.3mm. I found out from a supplier on alibaba. They have them on AliExpress for about $15 and ebay for a bit more (only one seller had them for a decent price

      They are rare on ebay.
      Common on AliExpress
Cheap in alibaba but shipping kills it

UPDATE: Seller is aware of this problem in 10% of the full adhesive tempered glass. Happily offered a replacement
