It was possible to get over 50k from $1 with a first 4…but nothing in the media saying anyone hit it. A few big trifecta payouts though!

Gambling is always a negative expected value game. That $80 win from a $1 bet is only tempting because it'll pay up maybe 1 in 100 times you try.

Internally, I am a "gambling is a waste of money" person, but $10 is the price of getting along with people once a year for a bit of small talk etc.
I have occasionally won in the past, so it isn't always a straight cost.I have the same sentimonies about Kris Kringle. A total waste of time and money. Almost always you will get a rubbish present, partially because most work people don't know you that well and the max price is usually $20.

Didn't win anything this year, but we won big a couple of years ago thanks to Prince of Penzance. Didn't know the odds or realise it was a female jockey but my great-grandparents lived in Penzance so I told my wife we had to back the horse. Nice little earner that one!
Decided not to participate. I feel its rather cruelty towards animals. I used to until 2 horses died soon after the race due to palpitation around 1 or 2 years go. Too bad and too cruel.
