Whoa, great price! Yes, the glowing reviews are all true, these are great basic speakers and are perfect for replacing stock speakers in many cars… and now sooo cheap to boot!

Bought a couple of pairs earlier this year purely to replace factory stock speakers in a couple of friends cars… one pair for a rear parcel shelf of an older Sedan and the other pair for front doors in a 2010-ish Suzuki Swift Hatchback. Got them for $50 per pair and really wasn't expecting much from their cheap build feel (thin pressed metal basket, shallow & lightweight magnet etc.) but yeah, once in I had to sit and listen to them for a lot longer than I thought because I was pretty impressed… at least impressed for $50 anyway! Might grab myself a couple more pairs…

How hard is it swap the factory fitted speakers with these ones?

    • +1

Yeah, I'm no car expert so I'm wondering where these would go in a car?

      • +4

YouTube…. You often have to remove interior doorining, sometimes easy, other times you have to remove lots if easy to break factory clips.

    • +3

All depends on how the stockies are mounted, your level of DIY skills and how much potential effort you want to put in. The front doors of the Suzuki I did are like most cars… plastic framed, twin-cone paper speaker assemblies mounted with three screws. I removed them, cut the centers of the assembly out (the actual cones & magnets) with a pair of side cutters then used the remaining plastic 'ring' to screw these into then cut the original plug off, soldered the wires direct to the speaker terminals then screwed them back in. All in all they took about 30 minutes to do that way but depending on all of the above variables it may take less or more for you and you particular install.

You can also get adaptor rings to do exactly what I did but without the fuss of modifying the old speakers and that would reduce the time easily by a third… but add to the overall cost of course. Last time I bought adaptor rings they cost me about $30/pr. Looks like you can get them for a LOT less these days, here's a pair for $12: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2pcs-6-5-Special-Car-Speaker-Mou… but of course different cars use different mounting systems. Some cars (as per the Sedan I did) the Pioneer speakers just dropped straight in and used the same mounting screws so that was very quick & easy.

      • Not sure if worth the effort to change the speakers on Dualis 2009 ST…

        • Well no, only if your stock Dualis speakers are stuffed which was the case with the Suzuki I did… burnt voice coils from my friends 'crank-a-thon' sessions :) Distortion? What distortion!? ;)

        • @SteveAndBelle:
          Lol. Not stuffed for sure.

        • @ms: Yeah, no point replacing them then. Maybe consider an under-seat Sub or small sub for the rear? Cheapie Subs are usually a good way of dramatically improving modern stock systems.

        • @SteveAndBelle:
          Thanks for the tip.

Older cars it is piece of piss, newer cars can be tricky. But prolly wanna replace wiring from head-unit to speaker if you are upgrading because factory wiring tend to be shitty.

      • +1

Not sure why you're being negged, what you said is quite true. Newer cars are a lot harder and the wiring does go bad eventually. Have a +1 from me

  • Wow great price op! These are worth 40-50 usually

I put in a pair in my commodore VX last month. Quite easy to do if you take your time, and a decent upgrade over stock. To really hear the difference you should upgrade the headunit as well

    • quick question….i have the same car and already have an upgraded headunit, just wondering if the stock plugs that are on the existing speakers fit on these or do they need to be cut and new plugs crimped on.

      thanks

      • Mate, if you already have an upgraded headunit, might want to consider a better set of speakers.
Any modern headunit is probably 40-50w RMS, and these speakers are 25w RMS.

These are perfectly fine to upgrade stock speakers in most cars (and at a great price/plus vote!), but depending on your headunit I reckon you're cutting yourself short with these.

Double check the RMS power (as opposed to Peak Wattage). If your headunit is rated higher, you'll be pushing these ones too hard.

        • Headunit only provide around 20w rms.

        • Depends on his 'upgraded headunit'. Could be far more than 20w.

A good question. No, the plugs are not the same, but rather than cut and join the included wires I used a small screwdriver to release the metal clasp from the stock plastic plug holder, and then I was able to attach it directly. They're a bit loose, but by crushing them a little with some needle nose plyers they fit on snugly

You'll need this (VT is same as VX)

Awesome, thanks for that… You clearly had good help.

I helped a friend do a full stereo install a while ago in the same car but we ran cable from the amp and obviously didn't use the plugs so thanks for the tip. Planning on selling the car in the next year so don't want to go all out

        • @shev07:

          You clearly had good help

can't fly with out a good copilot

  • +1

Might be a silly question but is this price per speaker or per pair?

    • +5

      They come as a pair.

    • +1

not a silly question, always make sure, businesses like you to take a guess and assume!

  • How… compatible are car speakers? I'm going to be getting a 2nd hand car next month or so, but I'm not sure which exactly, yet. Do all cars pretty much have a standard mounting size/template? If not, after I get the car, is there a way to check without removing the whole inner door?

    • +2

you can check online what speaker size fits in your car.

stock speakers can come in many sizes. there are adaptor to help change or you can build one out of mdf.

However, it much easier to replace with the same size.

      • I'll have to hope there's good deals next few months then :)

  • +1

There advertised on the back page of the catalog

Joondalup WA is out of stock

    • Hmm do you have a copy? What date does it end?

Edit: Ah okay I see it now. You're right. I updated the post now.

  • Gah won't add to cart from my phone (tried Chrome and Edge). Anyone else with same issue?

Will have to try from laptop when I next get on it

    • Having the same issue on desktop, tried multiple browsers

      • Working fine now

  • +1

Thanks! Going in the VT Commodore :)

  • Hey guys I have a camry altise 2004 model and it says it's 6"9", I dunno what this means but if i get these speakers will they fit?

    • No, 6x9's are an oval shape. Just Google it and you will see.

      • 6x9' will be bigger than the car itself.

        • 'Doc! We have to go back!'

    • -1

      6" circular in the front
9" oblong on rear parcel shelf

  • +1

exellent price for a pair of swapout car speakers… i just need to find a decent car to put my set of sony Xplode 4ways in… (worth more than the current car i'm driving)

  • How would these compare to the Jaycar Response range? They have always been among the best for value for money.
    https://www.jaycar.com.au/6-5-coaxial-speaker-with-silk-dome…

    • Look at the frequency response of the Jaycar ones, in particular the first number (how low they go). The Jaycar ones don't go as low as the Pioneers, but probably sound better in the range they do work at. In other words, unless you have other speakers in the car that can handle the lower frequencies, the Jaycars on their own replacing stock speakers may sound tinny (have far less bass), but when combined with 6x9's or a subwoofer would sound better than the Pioneers above.

All depends on your intended use.

These are the specs of the Pioneers (not quoted on the above website):

      Power Handling:
      Peak: 200 watts
      RMS: 25 watts
      - Injection Moulded Polypropylene (IMPP) cone woofer;
      - Extremely rigid yet lightweight;
      - Shallow basket frame & removable ear-type screw holes
      - Frequency Response : 31 Hz to 16 KHz
      - Sensitivity : 88dB
      - Impedance : 4Ω
      - Size : 16 cm

Local store didn't have them in stock so I got these for the same price https://www.autobarn.com.au/me23994

  • thanks op, I've managed to do a click and collect. This will be a good Bluetooth speaker box project.

    • Thanks OP
@Madfurbo123 I'd like to know what you need for your project? I'm thinking these are much better value than https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/home-theatre… (the cheapest flush-mount ceiling/wall speakers in JB range), for putting in the eaves of our to-be decked area, but not really sure what I'll need to power them. I would imagine your box set-up could be replicated in the roof-space - any tips (or best online guide link? Would love to wire up every room, but suspect that's a bit beyond me. TIA :)

Sorry it wouldn't let me post the eBay link of the amp I use. Search eBay for tda7492 these are great little amps. An example where I use this is in my Makita tradesmen radio on stock speakers and it performs great, and battery life on the 18v Makita is unreal

        • Thanks for that - lots of results, from ~$8-$40, bare boards to enclosed, might have to go back to plan a I think: Bluetooth car head unit mounted in the wall… with removable face security, would even be ok for outside (sheltered)

        • @Cheapkiwi:

That's all I've got the $10 ones, works amazing

        • @madturbo123: Hmmmm, cool - still a bit of research to do before I'm confident in the outcome of attempting… better than a $100 car pre-amp though! Thanks again!

  • I have a 350z which comes with Bose speakers I think. How would these sound compared to factory Bose?

  • Would these fit in my Holden Commodore Acclaim 2000? :)

Bought a pair, click and collect, and installed tonight (into front doors of 99 Forester). Definitely an improvement over what I had.

A quick test and I found them to be decent for $24. Will have a play around with settings tmrw for proper test.

  • Does anyone know Kia Cerato sports+ MY18 stock speakers specification?
Can these replace them? Kia has 2 small on dash board, 2 on front door & 2 on rear doors.
    Thanks.

    • Goo00ooOoooOoOOogle

      • Wish I can show you that there is NO information on Google.
But I found that I'm US similar/such model is sold as forte nothing more than that.
Can you direct me to Goo00ooOoooOoOOogle link for answer if my question?

        • If there isnt any info online you can call autobarn and they have a guide to see what size speakers your car has
