I tried registering a .com.au domain, and it said that it was already taken. So I went to another .au registrar and it was fine.

What gives?

  It turns out the whois lookup I use was blocked by AusRegistry. I've implemented a workaround already so it should be working again as normal.

  The standard renewal price is currently $45 (currently being reviewed). However, as you probably already know, you can easily transfer your domain come renewal time.
