Rawson's Retreat + the small talk OR Yellowtail Merlot + the full dozen?

Tossing up between these 2 as a gift, I've never personally tried any of them, and I don't intend to within the deadline. Would love if anyone with experience could nudge me either way here :)

Or are they both junk and I should look elsewhere for affordable red wine as gifts?

Rawson's retreat was my 2 buck chuck as a uni student. If you have a 1St choice liquor near you then i'd suggest Parson's Paddock Cabernet Sauvignon which is $6 a bottle currently (when buying 6 or more)

    • Thanks for the tip! He did mention he wants to try a few (red) wines, though, not just one. Do you know of any other good "bundles"?

Both are uninspiring as gifts if the recipient likes wine.
Most people would rather one or two fancy bottles than a case of budget wine.

An analogy would be buying someone a box of chocolates for $20 or ten bars of cadbury. Sure you get more with the cadbury, but most people would think the box of chocolates is a more suitable gift.

Mskeggs is spot on, but, if you can't or don't want to spend too much, they are perfectly drinkable.
I have tried both and would definitely go with the Yellowtail Pack. The Yellowtail and Bracken vine are not bad (for the price)
Can't really recommend any other bundles , but some affordable faves are Pepperjack, Penfolds Koonunga Hill, St Hallets, Grant Burge Classic, Cat amongst the Pigeons.

    • Actually, do you reckon I could pick out maybe 2-3 pairs of the best ones, and gift it as a 6/8-pack bundle? Could keep the worse ones myself.

If so, that'd be the Yellowtail, (both?) Brackenvilles, and anything else you think should make it?
