iPhone X Annual 20% off from Kogan? ShopMonk? eBay?

So for the last couple of years there have seemed to be 20% off newly released iPhones via eBay and Kogan/DickSmith via grey imports. I have happily bought these phones without issue.

Do you guys think this will happen again this year? Will this year be different due to it being over the $1,000 GST free import threshold that the others took advantage of?

Would love to hear people's thoughts since a saving of even $200 per device (less than 20%) is decent considering I will be buying two.

  • Everything with Grey imports works fine, until it doesn't. The money you save will pale into insignificance if you end up with an issue with your device and have to deal with the importer. Usually they make you send it back to them for the issue to be addressed and then you wait for them to address it and send it back to you; if you don't strike one that doesn't deal with the issue at all. There are a fair number of posts on Ozbargain with people complaining about dealing with Grey phones.

  • All my Grey imports on apple products have never had an issue with warranty with apple stores. They have been awesome. Even outside the warranty period. No questions. Just resolved.Maybe with other brands I would be worried, but Apple I'm happy to take a chance with.

  • Looks like the cheapest way to buy an iPhone X at the moment is with the Amex $100 cash back at HN. Happy to be proven wrong.

    • T&C of the offer state doesn't apply to Apple products

      • True, but Amex don't know what you've bought. I got the cashback from e-gift cards last time which were also excluded.

  • Heard that the iPhone 8's sourced by Dick Smith during the 20% off sale were Japanese models which mean you can't turn off the camera shutter sound.

Not that everyone is a pervert and the shutter sound is bad, but being able to turn off the sound is great for when you don't want an obnoxious click at family gatherings etc which makes everyone self concious and unable to take natural photos.

    • Solid point… though I would happily keep the camera click to save $200

  • Kogan website says iPhone X coming soon… hopefully they're rigging up another sweet deal. Called the local HN and they don't have any iPhone X stock to use with Amex offer.

    • I preordered and paid with AMEX, you could probably do the same just don’t know when it will be fulfilled.

  • Nothing will change. There will still be savings to be had for those willing to give up their protections under Australian Consumer Law.
