Solved ! Buying Gaming Tower from Gumtree

Dear all:

I am paying $3000 to buy the following desktop, the seller said he built this earlier in 2017, some of the receipts are lost, can someone tell me if anything is wrong with this spec?

This computer is my pride and joy, it has only been made a few months ago, completely from scratch. I am a proud custom computer builder and I take no shortcuts with my work, everything is 100% genuine and working.

First to see this amazing machine will buy. It is by far the highest spec you'll see on gumtree on a Z build. This machine will max out any game on ULTRA settings and is lightning quick with application processing. It is by far the best computer I have ever made/owned.

Nothing wrong with the specs but I wouldn't pay $3000 for something with little or no warranty.

    • thank you Iratepirate
I normally call the manufacture directly with sn number if something goes wrong, I just can't figure out why he use z170 instead of z270

      • Tell him you'd give him $1,600.
That way he will know that you found out what its actually worth, and would stop harassing for your $3k cash.

        • I told him the deal is off, but I think he will sell them at 2000 very quickly, it has 1080ti and 7700k after all lol

        • @back in 10:

2000-2100 would be about the top end of what its worth, you could probably build it new for about 2300-2500 if you caught the right sales. looks like some parts are older than he claims as the x61 was replaced by the x62 about 18 -24 months ago.

        • @back in 10:

          It's worth somewhere between $1,500 and $2,000.
If he built it for $3,000 then he either got ripped off, or doesn't know OzBargain.

But I'm guessing he's stopped playing video games, so he's trying to get rid of the system sooner while it still has some value. On top of that, he is smart in trying to sell the complete system… because if he sold it for parts he would likely be unable to sell some parts and overall lose more money.

So if you really want that system, either build your own, or make it so that you don't get ripped off.
$2,000 is a fair offer, but isn't doing you any favours in the current market with inflated RAM, SSD, and GPU prices (as well as obsolete Intel motherboard platforms). $1,500 is a good bargain worth getting. I would ask you to think twice before settling to spend $1,700 or more on a PC System.

Not bad specs, but you'd be able to build something with similar/better specs for less.

Also, the 960 Pro only comes in 512gb+ capacities, so it must be an Evo or a 950 Pro.

Thanks donnot! when I ask he why use z170, he said z170 won 2015 enthusiasm award , I never heard of it, I hope this is not a half new half 2 year old desktop

That board was released in late 2015 but you don't lose much in comparison with the Z270 boards. Plenty of motherboards win awards, but performance typically won't be varied between them (bar overclocking).

Just for comparison, $3000, can get you something like this with a 6-core i5 (7700k is only quad), same case, SSD, a water cooler (could easily save $100 on this by going for a decent air cooler)… Chose 16GB RAM as no game will come close to using 16 so 32 is complete overkill.

That system comes completely prebuilt with a return to store warranty as well as the full manufacturers warranty, so there aren't any risks re: receipts, ownership etc…

Wouldn't you rather get a brand new computer instead? The new Intel chips are out and are absolutely killing it.. I'd rather have a Z370/i5 8600k (6 CPU cores) and a GTX1080 than a z170 & i7 7700k.

$3k for a second hand machine is not a bargain. I'm also suspicious about "lost receipts" which to me sounds like the SSD, HDDs and PSU are all from an older machine.

Edit: Did some rough math and came up with $3100 to build brand new for that 7700k machine.. but like I said my advice is go with the new Z370 chips.

    • Thank you NuclearWessels yeah I have that feels too! btw where do I get all these parts from? should I wait for ebay 15% off sale?

      • Get the parts from any reputable computer store, Umart, PC case gear and others.

You might be thinking that GumTree can lead to bargains OP, and they mostly can, but these people who list stuff know the prices of their components very well and definitely wanna make a buck from you. I mean this doesn't even make any sense "VERY RARE HIGH-END MOTHERBOARD". I'd stay away considering theres no warranty available and it seems this guy wants to sell to an uninformed audience, i.e. increases price bc its hard to judge value from his components.

thanks mate, I told he the deal is off! better of ordering from retailers!

        Good move.

$3000 for pc not warranty = more dollars than sense

rare motherboard? what is it like nearly extinct or something?

it's probably rare because it's 2 years old lol

i got a pc at home with a mobo they stopped producing more than 15 years ago. does that mean i can sell as 'extremely rare'?

very cute, I guess some newbie like me might even fall for that!

Depending on where you live you can go talk to one of the major stores and they would be happy to build you a system new with proper warranty. Alternatively you could jump on you tube watch a couple how to vids and do it yourself most parts are impossible to plug into the wrong spot so there is little chance of making a mistake. You can go to a website called pc part picker and you can start by picking the CPU and it will walk you through the rest of the parts checking for incompatibilities as you go, in the end you have a parts list and a estimated price. if you're unsure when you are finished just post the list here and i am sure people would be willing to look over it and make suggestions.

edit. Here's a set up i have just finished building. parts list
