really cheap, thats the feeling i had after using this camera!

The price is good, although prone to interference if you can get it to work wirelessly

  • does this work with iphone??

  • Fair bit info on the whirlpool forums about this camera (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1008422) looks like it doesn't work on the iPhone

  • Seem to remember posting a deal on this IP camera eons ago. From what I can recall, I think its pitfall is crappy, unreliable firmware - people reported a highly frustrating tendency for the camera to freeze and become inaccessible after a few days.

This is pretty much an end of life product - it's been around for a while, but only one firmware update.

    Pros: Cheap.
Cons: Wireless unreliable. Motion Detection over sensitive.

I've got two of these, both connected wired, and I'm very happy with the wired connection - these cameras on a wired connection come up, stay up, and allow remote monitoring.

Motion capture - using the built in configuration - is over sensitive - a cloud changing the lighting conditions will result in a capture.

My cameras capture data to a local FTP server running on a NAS, as well as email to my gmail account. These functions both work reliably.

I can view live video on a web browser (any - don't need to use the supplied ActiveX control, provided you have the direct URLs to the appropriate streaming feeds), including my aging Nokia smart phone.

If you can run these wired, and don't need sophisticated motion capture control, they are not bad.

If you need wireless, want iphone app integration, or sophisticated motion capture without false positives, these are not for you.

Voting positive because this is a good price.

      thanks for review

  • I've got one.
I actually bought it based on a previous OzBargain deal :)

Wireless is pretty reliable for me. Very rarely has it not communicated with my router.

    Picture quality is so-so.

Agree with BJ on the motion detection - it's triggered by changes in the light so if you really want this feature turned on make sure the camera is away from sunlight/clouds.

At $99 you can't go wrong.

  • I used to have one of these (until it was stolen :)

As some people have observed the wireless reliability wasn't always the best.

And low light level performance was quite poor.

I currently have a pair of Foscam wireless IP cameras ($130 each) and they are brilliant for the money. IR LEDS, viewable and controllable (pan/tilt) from iPhone.

    • May I ask where you got it from ?

      • Ok I've dug out my receipt for you.

      • Don't know about a lot cheaper, but there are a lot of fake Foscams on eBay (and even places like Deal Extreme), this shop imports the genuine items.

        • Ah, ok. Thanks.

      • That's the one Mark. You can pickup from his shop if you're in Melbourne which is what I did.

  • On a side note, for those who have an IP/USB camera, what software are you using for monitoring the feeds? As stated the cameras motion detection is not that good, so are you using a software solution to do this for you?

    Cheers
    Mike

    • I've used i-Catcher from iCode.. excellent software, but it's expensive.
You can get a free trial off their website to check it out. You could also find some ..uhh, 'permanent trials' online too if you're that way inclined ;)

By the way I got a Foscam FI8918W off Mangocam.com recently, it was delivered the next day.. very impressed with both Mangocam and the Foscam.

      Cheers
