Affordable way to learn Table Tennis

Hey Ozbargain Community,

So I have this thing in my mind to learn how to play table tennis. I live in Dandenong, Victoria. Googled a bit but wasn’t happy with the information and found gumtree ads for TT coaching where they charge $50 p/hr which is definitely not my thing. Don’t have many friends who play TT, unfortunately.

I’ve seen a few TT clubs on google and probably that must be a way to learn it but still I reckon the membership costs would be high. So I’m seeking your suggestions and I’m sure I’ll find a solution with this thread. Thanks for your time.

    join a club they have plenty social days, costs should be cheap enough? The best way to get better is to simply play & experiment with different rackets. My kids improved dramatically over the space of 3 weeks from just mucking around on our cheap table in the shed

    Monash campus in Berwick has table tennis facility. You can rock up on the weekend and make friends there then play together

    If you are learning for fun, jump in to a social club. If you want to learn for competition, combine this with some coaching so you don't learn improper technique.

    if you just live close to where I am (meadow heights), i do have a table and I can teach you for free. Just bring snacks/food for both of us.. lol =P

      Just a PSA from a grizzled, old, and likely overly-cynical internet-goer: Don't give out information about your location like that online (if it's real). Too easy to piece it together with information from other places, especially if you use the same/similar username, for someone to track you down if they had a mind to.
