so it's the same price as all the other deals? (except the cheaper deal)

  • I picked one up from Harvey Norman Garden City QLD, and the Carindale store still had stock. None of the Officeworks stores in Brisbane have stock left - from what they told me at least

  • I just bought one, haven't opened the box yet, but tried unlock.telstra.com.au, as the IMEI is written on the outside of the box.

The Telstra webpage says as it is a prepaid phone, I have to pay a fee between $25 and $125, and to ring them.

    How to proceed?

      use live chat

Telstra may change the unlock iphone rules.

I personally bought two devices last Friday and Sunday respectively and both of them could be unlocked straight away without any issue.

      • I'm pretty sure that is the URL I used, but I just tried again, same result. I didn't remember the numbers correctly, the actual result was

"The IMEI entered is for a Pre-Paid service.

An unlock fee between $27.50 and $150 will apply depending on your phone model and when it was activated.

Please call 125 8880 if you wish to proceed."

        I'll try online chat next.

Just tell chat you're going on holiday for a few weeks and need the phone unlocked. That's what I did and worked a treat.

          @Ashman247:
Thanks, I just got off the line with Telstra chat, and they were as helpful as everyone said. It took me a while though, Telstra chat asked me to insert a foreign SIM and try it. As it was the first time the phone had powered up, I had to answer more questions than I had expected, took me a good ten minutes before I could make a call. I skipped all the questions I thought I could defer for later.

        • @Russ: So, at the end did you still manage to unlock it without a Telstra prepaid service?

        • @sylvester328:
Yes, they unlocked it for me. They didn't ask if I was I customer, and I didn't volunteer that information - although I did give my real name and email address to use their online chat, so maybe they looked it up. I don't have a Telstra prepaid service.

I do wonder if the phone was actually locked in the first place - maybe Telstra depend on you using the included SIM, which maybe causes it to become locked? I don't know if that's possible.

        • @Russ:
went on live chat and got the phone unlocked tonight. they didn't ask for any info regarding current prepaid service as well.

Prior to the chat, I got the same message from Telstra's unlock web site. Without using the bundled SIM, I used an existing Telstra prepaid SIM and it works. The phone was definitely locked because a vodafone SIM didn't work. It went to activation then gave me a message saying it is locked. When the guy in the chat said the unlocking was done, I put in the vodafone SIM. It went to activation again and worked this time right away.

        • @sylvester328:

Thanks for the reply. So now I know that my Iphone was actually locked, and the supplied SIM doesn't do anything special.

    • I guess, may be do not activate the prepaid sim card ?
just unlock it and use other sim card
throw the Telstra prepaid sim that comes with the phone ?

    • Hmm… that's sucky. I wonder if it's the same for all stock or just some. Did you get yours from a store or delivered?

      • Delivered. There was no stock within 10km of me, I was worried that stock might run out before I got to the store, and delivery was only $6.

The phone came in a shoebox-size cardboard box, with a reasonable amount of bubble wrap to protect it. There was a Telstra SIM stuck onto the Iphone box, apparently with $30 or $40 of credit. I wish I had a way to use that credit, I don't want a Telstra prepaid account.

BigW has Optus iPhone SE for $399 from today. Got it for my son, it’s unlocked out of the box. Used the 5% off egiftcards.

I am fighting the temptation to buy a 32gb last gen phone…

    • Don't fight it. Just do it!

    • se(6s)-7-8(x) that's two gen old, if it helps. lol

  • Ehh the AMEX T&C's seem to state:
Excludes purchases of AEG, Apple, Asko, De Dietrich, Elica, Fagor, Falcon, Gaggenau, Miele, NEFF and St George products.

Anyone able to confirm if they managed to get the discount for this deal?

    • thanks

    • +1

Last year I purchased an iPhone7 and no issue at all.

    • Yep. Apple iPhone SE 32GB Telstra, $399 + $14.95 delivery, $100 cashback received next day.

      • Did you need to buy something to make it over $400 or was the delivery cost enough to push it over the $400 limit?

        • Nope, just delivery.

  • No stocks seem to be able in nsw

    • Yeah, the only option is to get it delivered. I ordered one, paid the $15 delivery, and order has been accepted and shipped.

      • Will shipping+ item cost meets $400 or I have to add a $1 item to the cart?

        • +2

Item + shipping >=$400 is fine, AMEX only see the total.

        • @Jad: Thanks for confromation.

  • Bought a Optus locked one for $399 at harvey Norman Loganholme. They have 1 more when i left. Thanks OP

  • did anyone buy instore and still get amex $100 credit email?

  • for those trying to unlock the phone don't even bother calling the number. live chat and type random stuff when you get directed to virtual assistant codi to reach a real person.

    • Huh. That's new. I didn't get that when I used it a week ago.

      • Yeah I think is a new "feature" telstra rolled out and calling the number you're just stuck on hold the whole time.

  • The deal has finished. Link went to dead end.
