Yes with $600 budget I'll rather get a pre-owned / refurbished business laptop. The i5/i7 from a few generations ago are still faster than i3-7100U that you get from base model. For example look for ThinkPad T540 or Latitude E6540 you might be able to find some good business grade laptop within your budget.

You need to compromise on screen size. These are high end business machines very strongly built. I recently got one, warranty remaining is still 2 years.
